Persons with disabilities make up 16% of the global population 📊 yet they rarely access leadership roles, including in the health sector. Too often they face barriers and are denied fair chances at accessing health services. Persons with disabilities have the right to achieve their highest levels of health—just like anyone else. Health is a basic human right, not a privilege. More: https://bit.ly/417LJYm

Health equity is not only an issue for the medical profession, but also a responsibility for everyone. Each of us has a responsibility to provide equal access to health care for people with disabilities and to provide them with the same choices and supports for health and reproduction.

Individuals with disabilities face significant challenges not only in accessing essential healthcare services but also in pursuing educational opportunities. It is particularly disheartening to see countries proclaiming scholarship programs for international students while simultaneously imposing eligibility criteria that explicitly require applicants to be both mentally and physically healthy. This raises a troubling question: what does this exclusion imply about the value placed on the lives and aspirations of disabled individuals within our society? Are we to believe that disability disqualifies a person from seeking knowledge and growth? Nations that adopt such discriminatory practices should take a moment to reflect on their policies and consider whether these criteria are just and equitable. It deeply troubles me to witness such exclusionary standards in a world that should be striving for inclusivity and acceptance.

At Human Study, we actively encourage persons with disabilities to train as Prosthetist/Orthotists in our programs in the Global South. Our graduates utilise their skills to become managers, leaders and role models, building sustainable, locally-run rehabilitation services for prosthetics and orthotics users. #edutech #humanstudy

Well, an important aspect of this issue begins long before even considering leadership roles …. with challenging access to education. Without adequate access to schools for children with disabilities, the journey toward leadership positions becomes nearly impossible. Even in wealthy nations, finding suitable and inclusive educational opportunities for kids with disabilities is often a significant challenge. ↳ Ensuring equal access to education is the foundation for building a more inclusive and equitable society.

In my opinion people with disabilities are the most able persons on this planet. Empowering them is the best we can do. Because they are able to make remarkable changes in society.

Good insight on health, human rights and leadership with physical disabilities. Everyone has the right to live an equal life irrespective of physical structure and strength. All must be able to access the health facilities, education, socio economic benefits and other facilities available without any discrimination, which will help to boost up a good mental health of the individual despite his physical challenges.

Many have invisible disabilities as well. Just because you can’t physically see someone’s disability doesn’t mean they don’t have a disability.

Empowering persons with disabilities to take on leadership roles in health would be a major step toward inclusion and equity. We must work toward more accessible healthcare systems for all. 🌍

Insightful! Today, we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities, a day dedicated to promoting the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society. It's a moment to recognize the strength, resilience, and valuable contributions that individuals with disabilities make to our communities, workplaces, and the world at large.

Everyone should have equal rights that’s a given. But the harsh reality is there’s no such thing as absolute fairness in this world there’s only absolute power. World Health Organization
