As the financial services industry embraces digital transformation through mobile banking and data connectivity, Fintech is reshaping finance and empowering consumers to take control of their financial lives. This has led to increased financial literacy levels compared to previous years. In 2021, Fintech startups raised over $120 billion, highlighting their growing importance. However, the Fintech industry also faces unique testing and quality assurance challenges, particularly with regard to regulatory compliance and security requirements. In today's episode, we are excited to have Cathy Hsu, Founding Product Manager of Lead, share her experience in the Fintech industry. Cathy Hsu's background is diverse, spanning software engineering, finance, and business. Prior to joining Lead Bank, the industry-leading banking-as-a-service partner for Fintechs, she worked as a product manager at Squar. Cathy Hsu believes that the key to bringing about real change is to embrace a proactive approach to risk-taking, rather than avoiding it or simply accepting the status quo. By understanding the risks involved, we can take control of them and leverage technology to mitigate them effectively. Join us in this episode as Cathy Hsu discusses the common pain points she has observed across Fintechs over the last 5 to 10 years. In this episode of Startup Island Taiwan Podcast, you will find out: ☛ What is the underline in finance? ☛ The primary use case for blockchain technology in its early days was cross-border transactions ☛ Two pain points across fintechs to integrate with banks ☛ Cathy's perspective on the future evolution of Fintech ☛ The conflict between the technology, finance, and legal teams in Fintech companies Powered by Startup Island TAIWAN Directed by National Development Council Produced by Meet Global by Business Next Media 👉More news of Taiwan startups: https://lnkd.in/g8ie8CtV 👉Follow us on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gCkqFZTZ 📪 Email us: global@bnext.com.tw Leave a comment and share your thoughts: https://lnkd.in/grfkJh9b

Some interesting insights from a recent McKinsey & Company article (and podcast), “After the surge,” on the future of payments. 💳 My takeaways: 1. Shift in Growth Strategy 🚀 : The payments sector is moving from a period of rapid growth fuelled by pandemic-driven digital payment adoption to a focus on sustainable profitability. 2. Importance of Software and Value-Added Services 💸 : Integrating software with payment services is now crucial, especially for small businesses. Payment providers must diversify beyond core processing by offering a broader range of services and forming partnerships with software companies. #digitalpayments #fintech #paymentsstrategy #bankingtrends

The founder and CEO of the big fintech competitor participated in two podcasts recently. He speaks with amazing honesty and gets straight to the point. Here is what I learned about ... The definition of success: The percentage of goals you reach. The future of Revolut: In 3 years, Revolut will be fully localized as a bank in 40 markets (out of 50), providing local accounts, local credit cards, local payment methods, loans, and more, making it as competitive as local banks, or even more competitive. Life as a CEO: 99% of the time, it’s a lot of pressure, a lot of pain. All the unpleasant, unsolved problems of the organization go to me. No matter how smart you are, you cannot predict what happens. You have to learn the skills in a new area before you can select people (interview the whole market to learn). Traditional banking CEOs: The problem with traditional banking CEOs is that they are not tech-driven at all. They speak in very vague jargon to hide their incompetence in tech-related matters. People: Excellent employees will set and reach their goals themselves. Strong people can be trusted to meet objectives once the goal is clearly communicated, and they don’t require frequent iterations from management. Average employees, however, may need regular check-ins—on a weekly basis—to stay on track. Those who do not deliver in the first three months will most likely not deliver in the future. Employees should not compete with each other; they should collaborate and work as a team on common goals. Marketing: I do believe in brand marketing now. Before, I did not. If it’s a very small portion of performance marketing, and if you can afford it, it works. Product philosophy: Simplicity—you need to solve this with the interface, showing the right product at the right time. Ultimately, people need a lot of products. If you position everything in a very simple way, then there is no problem. Working with (the UK) regulator: Explain what we built in very simple terms. We show data that proves our results are better compared to legacy banks. In the end, that’s what matters: if you show the data. Bitcoin: The biggest lesson around crypto: never speculate in crypto.
