According to the International Maritime Organization (IMO), in 2023, women accounted for only 29% of the overall workforce in the maritime industry and 20% of the workforce of national maritime authorities in the Member States. Diverse teams are more likely to develop comprehensive and innovative solutions in sectors like the maritime, which face complex sustainability challenges such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, protecting marine ecosystems, and ensuring social responsibility. ‘𝘉𝘶𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘦 𝘵𝘦𝘢𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘷𝘶𝘭𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺. Is biotechnology emerging as a preferred career path for women? 👀 At UNU-Biolac, as part of the UN System, we have a strict non-discrimination policy when selecting our fellows. However, successful selection depends primarily on the support of the sending and hosting institutions where they intend to work. The fact that, consistently, the majority of our fellows turn out to be #women tells us that biotechnology is a fertile and attractive field of work for their professional development in Latin America and the Caribbean. We celebrate this data and see in it an opportunity to advance indicator 5.5.2 on the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all girls and women (SDG 5): Proportion of women in management positions. 🌊 On World Maritime Day, we celebrate the invaluable contributions of women in the maritime industry, whose dedication and expertise are shaping the future of this vital sector. As we honor the trailblazers and innovators who have broken barriers and defied stereotypes, we also recognize the growing number of women taking on leadership roles in shipping, logistics, and marine science. Their unique perspectives and skills are essential for fostering inclusivity and driving sustainable practices within the industry. Let this day inspire us to support and empower women in maritime, ensuring that the oceans remain a space where talent knows no gender, and where the contributions of women are celebrated and valued. This was me, not too long ago, at a conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, where I had the honor of speaking about "Women's solidarity and innovative future for a green world." ➡️ Specifically, I delved into "The experience of women leaders in the international arena" during the second panel. It was a topic close to my heart, especially on those tough days when the weight of entrepreneurship feels all too heavy. ➡️ Navigating the entrepreneurial world as a woman can feel like trekking an uncharted wilderness. ➡️ Yet, in Baku, amidst a diverse group of visionaries, innovators, and leaders, a powerful truth resonated deeply within me. Our journey, fraught with challenges, is also ripe with unparalleled opportunities for innovation, especially in fostering a greener world. ➡️ The crux of my speech? Solidarity and innovation are not just buzzwords but the very pillars on which the future of female entrepreneurship rests. In an era where the call for ecological sustainability grows louder each day, it's imperative that we, as women leaders, harness our unique perspectives and experiences to drive meaningful change. ➡️ But how, you might ask? It starts with embracing solidarity. In a room full of women from across the globe, the energy was palpable – a testament to the power of collective ambition. The path to a greener future is paved with collaboration, with sharing our victories and setbacks alike. It's about creating spaces where our voices, often marginalized, are not just heard but amplified. ➡️ Innovation, on the other hand, is where our creativity shines. It's about reimagining the status quo, daring to dream big, and relentlessly pursuing those dreams. Women, with our inherent nurturing instinct, are uniquely positioned to lead the charge towards ecological sustainability. ➡️ Our approach to business, grounded in empathy and foresight, enables us to craft solutions that are not only profitable but also beneficial for the planet. As I stood there, sharing my journey and listening to others, it became clear: the future is not just female; it's green, innovative, and inclusive. But we can't do it alone. It takes a village – or, in our case, a global network of determined women. ➡️ So, here's my call to action: Let's connect, collaborate, and create. Whether you're a seasoned CEO, a budding entrepreneur, or a student with a vision, your voice matters. ➡️ Share your story, your insights, and let's pave the way for a brighter, greener future together. And if this message resonates with you, I encourage you to repost and spread the word. ➡️ Alone we are invisible, together e are invincible. Together, we're unstoppable. #FCEM #CMAPM #AQSIA
