When Narayan Murthy said that he didn't believe in work-life balance and was disappointed when his company Infosys started 5 days work week back in 1986, my heart went out for his wife, Sudha Murthy, thinking about the amount of default parenting she had to do, all the mental loads, all that household sundry, and all that compromises (I won't use the word 'sacrifice' here because she did it out of love as she revealed in one of her books). No wonder, we women, still struggle under the guilt of 'not giving time at home' and the responsibility of being default parents while most men pursue their '70 hour work week'. Ireland-based tech giant Accenture , which employs over 750,000 people across 120 countries, is reportedly delaying the majority of its employees' promotions by six months. Last week, the company informed employees that most promotions will be announced in June instead of the usual December timeframe, Bloomberg reported, citing sources. Last October, Accenture announced that it would not be providing salary increases to its employees in India and Sri Lanka in 2023, except where legally required or where commitments were made in critical skill areas. The company employs over 300,000 people in India. It is worth noting that Accenture CEO Julie Sweet, who recently met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New York, received a compensation package valued at $31.5 million for the 2023 fiscal year.
