Futures Explored was one of the sponsors for the annual Creative Concord Jam, an event that celebrates artists of the community. We came together and shared what we did to our neighbors. We tend to focus on the instrumental value of communication: persuading people to accept our position, making the sale, or managing others. These are all legitimate goals. The greatest value of communication, though, is that it is a means to share our perspective and to invite others to see something in a new way. Here are a few examples: ➡ A disability rights advocate helped me see that design elements implemented for people with disabilities can make environments easier for everyone to navigate. ➡ A Black colleague helped me understand the strain of having her credibility questioned constantly. ➡ A client helped me understand the value of balancing privacy with appropriate disclosures. The influence wielded by these individuals occurred not through argument, but by their sharing experiences in a way that invited me to see something I was already familiar with from a new perspective. This 34-second video was one of my favorites to share with students to convey the power of perspective. A little shift can open up a whole new vision. #communication #perspective #influence #persuasion https://lnkd.in/egJjhSup

NAVA, Queervox, the Disabled Voice Actors Database and Voices of color teamed up and worked on creating the Best Practices for Authentic Casting document! This has been months in making, and I am so happy that this is out in the world now. Authentic casting is important. Representation matters. But there is some consideration that needs to be taken into account when it comes to these casting decisions. Please take a read, especially if you are someone who has a hand in casting 🤗 https://lnkd.in/gFxA9run #RepresentationMatters #Diversity #VoiceActor #Casting

Only 5% of the TV and film workforce have a disability compared to around 24% of the working age population. It's so important to increase diversity behind the camera, as well as on screen.
Today, we celebrate #HumanRightsDay, honouring the Universal Declaration of Human Rights adopted by the UN in 1948. Check out our short film #WeAreNDTi, created with @BeaconFilmsUK and a fantastic team of #Neurodivergent filmmakers, to see what we do in simple terms. Upholding and protecting human rights is at the core of everything we do.
