How do piezoelectric ceramic components generate ultrasonic waves? Piezoelectric ceramics are suitable materials for generating and detecting ultrasonic waves. Carriers migrate in piezoelectric materials under the action of an electric field, resulting in a visible change in length (inverse piezoelectric effect). If the applied voltage is an AC voltage, the particles in the medium (such as air) begin to vibrate. Pressure fluctuations occur. Sparse particles lead to a decrease in pressure, while compression leads to an increase in pressure. Sound wavelength describes the distance between two areas of sparseness or pressure. The sound waves generated propagate in the surrounding medium. The speed of sound varies depending on the density and elastic properties of the medium. Wanna know more about this? Insulating material (most likely glass or acrylic) under a device called a cathode ray tube, which produces a powerful beam of negatively charged electrons traveling at 99% the speed of light. In order to get the electrons to discharge inside of the glass or acrylic, you must first insert charged particles into the material through a process called irradiation. Then, that sets up the same conditions that lead to a lightning strike: When the electrons from the cathode ray meet the charged portions of the insulating material, those portions instantly become electrically conductive and you get a miniature, but powerful, lightning strike.
