Today, on International Volunteer Day, we celebrate the transformative power of volunteering in creating meaningful change. At Fyffes, we are deeply committed to protecting our planet, supporting the communities we serve, and promoting the well-being of our employees. As part of this commitment, in 2024, we are launching a new initiative that provides office employees one day off annually to engage in volunteer activities. This program strengthens our communities and empowers our employees to make a positive impact. In Central America, we have coordinated high-impact volunteering efforts focused on improving public infrastructure in schools and community colleges, as well as organizing reforestation days in areas near our farms. Additionally, our volunteers have dedicated countless hours to supporting the Food Bank, assisting with essential tasks such as repairing and organizing food and goods to aid vulnerable families in Costa Rica. Together, we are working toward a more sustainable and resilient future. #Fyffes #InternationalVolunteerDay

Volunteering is a great source for well-being but 👇 Volunteering can take place only when people's basic needs are satisfied. If people's basic needs are not satisfied, it is called unpaid job. Be smart! Best practices for volunteering in EU are coming soon 👇 #volunteering #mentalhealthawarenessmonth
Coming soon💡👇 📕Our collection of best practices in volunteering programs will be available in a matter of days! 🌍 It includes 23 practices from Austria, Cyprus, Romania, Spain and Sweden, as well as programs with international and global dimension. 💡In their diversity, the practices paint a picture of the dynamic field of volunteering, which is both expanding in terms of topics and tools, and growing in terms of awareness of its own impact: both on communities, on volunteers and on society. #MP4mentors #volunteering #goodpractice

Did you know that last week was National Volunteer Week? Neither did I! But now that I do, I want to give an anonymous shout out to all of the amazing volunteers and charitable organisations that I have had the pleasure to work with over the past-many years. Your mahi matters to me. And while I'm here - a few insights I can share from some of this work: 1 - Volunteers don't do it for the recognition. But, they do want to feel appreciated 2 - There is no single way to show appreciation for your volunteers in a way that will universally "land well". Sadly, misjudged expressions of appreciation sometimes do more harm than good 3 - The best way to get it right, is to understand your volunteers deeply, and have a well-stocked toolkit that your volunteer-managers can dig into to show authentic and well-considered appreciation on a case-by-case basis PM me if you want to know more about the research to support these insights, or how you can check whether the frameworks and approaches you have in place will land well with your volunteers. #NVW2024 #TheBigShoutOut

SDG-17: Partnerships For The Goals. Volunteering is more than just lending a hand; it is an opportunity to broaden perspectives, discover new passions, and create meaningful connections. Through engaging in projects like mangrove restoration and coral reef conservation, volunteers often find a deeper purpose while immersing themselves in the beauty and challenges of a new environment. From exploring breathtaking landscapes to working alongside local communities, the experience transforms how one views the world and their place in it. For many, volunteering becomes a journey of self-discovery, where a new place can feel like home and giving back leaves a lasting impact. It is not just about what you give to others, but also what you gain in return—new skills, cherished friendships, and a profound sense of belonging. Volunteering reminds us of the power of collaboration and the importance of contributing to a better future for all. #VolunteeringJourney #EnvironmentalConservation #CrossCulturalConnection #MakingADifference #BaleNaraLombok

Over the coming days, I will be sharing insights into European attitudes to volunteering. Did you know volunteering rates vary dramatically across Europe? From 48% in Norway to under 10% in some countries, understanding these differences is key for associations looking to engage European volunteers. Check out this map showing formal volunteering rates across the continent. What surprises you most about these numbers? Share your thoughts below! #AssociationLeadership #VolunteerEngagement #EuropeanTrends

VOLUNTEERING can empower citizens to collaborate, to find solutions, to have a voice in their own communities. But volunteering can be complicated. At times it can give cover to inequalities, like when people are compelled to volunteer because a community isn’t receiving basic services. In advance of the United Nations’ International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development (IYV) in 2026, IAVE is hosting a series of Global Dialogues to encourage a wide set of conversations about volunteering that will inform and inspire what happens during IYV 2026 and beyond. We see IYV 2026 as a call to action for greater recognition and investment in volunteering. Join a global dialogue here: iave.org/iyv26.

Volunteering doesn’t ‘just happen’ It is one of the most agile and innovative forms of work and participation in modern-day Australia, it requires strategic investment to remain sustainable. Our Pre-Budget Submission 2025-26, developed with the state and territory Volunteering Peak Bodies, outlines key priorities to strengthen volunteering and meet national goals. 📌 Recommendations include: • Cost-of-living relief for volunteers • Expanded Volunteer Management Activity funding • A national volunteer passport • Climate change volunteering initiatives These priorities, alongside further targeted recommendations, highlight the critical investment needed to support Australia’s volunteering ecosystem. On this International Volunteer Day, I want to share a personal story—a story of passion, determination, and the belief that collective action can drive meaningful change. When I founded Friguia for Strategies, it wasn’t just about launching an organization; it was about building a safe space where ideas meet impact. Our mission is rooted in fostering peace, strengthening resilience, and issues deeply tied to the well-being of our communities. Friguia’s story goes beyond its objectives. It’s a testament to the power of volunteering. In the early days, we had no roadmap, just a shared vision. Every small success came from countless hours of brainstorming, mobilizing resources, and working alongside inspiring volunteers who believed in the cause as much as I did. Through Friguia, I’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of giving back. Whether it’s organizing awareness campaigns, creating safe spaces for dialogue, or empowering youth to take the lead in their communities, volunteering has been the heartbeat of our journey. Today, I want to celebrate all the volunteers who have contributed to Friguia’s impact. You are the reason we continue to grow, learn, and inspire. To anyone considering volunteering: know that your time, energy, and skills have the potential to create ripples of change. Let’s continue to build a world where solidarity and hope pave the way for a better future. #VolunteerDay #FriguiaForStrategies #PeaceBuilding #Resilience #CommunityImpact
