The US Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis) has officially authorized the importation of fresh #Hass avocados from #Guatemala, marking a pivotal moment for both Guatemalan producers and US markets. Through rigorous analysis, Aphis confirmed that #Guatemalan avocados can be safely imported into the US with appropriate mitigations. This decision is being celebrated by the Guatemalan government, led by President Bernardo Arévalo, and by Guatemala’s exporters’ association (Agexport). Growth Potential: • Year 1 Projection: Approximately 3,000 tons of Hass avocados could be exported to the US. • Future Growth: Exports could exceed 15,000 tons by 2030. • In 2023, Guatemala exported $16 million worth of avocados—a 33% increase over 2022. This decision signifies not only a step forward for Guatemala’s agricultural sector but also enhances access to quality produce for US consumers.
