Getting to serve Cone Health leaders and physicians last week was both a privilege and a reminder of what matters most in the work we do every day. Together, we explored how joy and engagement aren’t just nice-to-haves but essential elements of enduring high performance. After all, to truly thrive—and not just survive—in our personal and professional lives, we must find ways to enjoy what we do. What struck me most during the Q&A was how deeply Cone’s culture aligns with this idea. Their values of caring for each other and inspiring pride, passion, and fun are more than just words; they’re lived practices. Many of the questions and reflections from the audience underscored this truth: joy isn’t optional; it’s vital. In The Fun Habit, I talk about why we need to rethink how we approach joy, weaving it into our lives with intentionality. It is clear that Cone Health embodies this mindset by fostering environments where people can connect, grow, and find meaning in their work. I’m grateful to have had the chance to contribute to this incredible community. As we head into 2025, my hope for everyone is to embrace the joy that sustains us, both at work and beyond. Here’s to more fun, purpose, and connection in the year ahead! 🙌 #TheFunHabit (A huge shout to Maria Gonzalez, one of the most fun people I know who planted the seed that brought this experience to light.)

🩺 What’s one thing you’re grateful for in healthcare this week? As we approach Thanksgiving, I’ve been reflecting on the moments in healthcare that truly matter. Not the metrics or the milestones—but the connections. 👉 A patient’s smile after feeling heard. 👉 A colleague stepping up when you needed support. 👉 A leader making a decision with transparency and care. In the hustle of our work, it’s easy to forget how much these moments shape lives—not just for patients, but for us as professionals. This week, I want to challenge all of us: 💡 What’s one small action you can take to show gratitude, build trust, or create a meaningful impact in someone’s life? Maybe it’s pausing to thank a teammate. Maybe it’s going the extra mile for a patient. Maybe it’s reflecting on what drives you in this work. Let’s use this week to plant seeds of gratitude and connection that remind us why we do what we do. So, what’s your one action this week to make a difference? Share it below—I’d love to hear it. #HealthcareHeros #Gratitude #Thanksgiving2024 #MakingADifference #ConnectionMatters

Katie Cornell is a patient services representative. Every day, she follows a strict schedule, picking up the clinic’s mail at 2 p.m. But on this day, something told her to head out a little earlier. She couldn’t explain why — just a feeling, a hunch. As she walked outside, she heard an odd noise coming from an awning that had been installed less than a year ago. It didn’t sound right. Instinctively, she banged on the window of a car in which a patient’s husband was napping while he waited. Startled, he woke up and moved his car. Seconds later, the awning came crashing down, right where the car had been parked. In that moment, Katie saved not only his life, but also the lives of three others, including her own. A routine task, a decision to step outside a little earlier than usual, taking action when something didn’t feel right — all are seemingly insignificant on their own. Yet Katie’s presence of mind, her awareness of her surroundings, and most importantly, her heart to care for those around her, converged to create a moment of extraordinary impact. Later, Katie sent her manager a simple text: “I saved a life today.” Thank you, Katie. Your story is a reminder that every decision we make matters. We each have the power to make a difference. It’s about being aware, being present, and above all, caring deeply for the people we serve and for each other. No matter your role at Corewell Health, know this: your work is essential, and your actions have an impact far beyond what you might see in the moment. Acting with heart and purpose, there’s no limit to what we can achieve. #HealthcareHeroes #EverydayHeroes #WorkplaceSafety #EmployeeSpotlight
