Call for Abstracts | SCORAI Europe 2025 Hello from the SCORAI Europe 2025 Conference, We invite researchers and practitioners working with sustainable consumption to submit an abstract to the SCORAI Europe conference 2025, April 8-10, in Lund, Sweden. The conference will bring together 400-500 researchers and practitioners concerned with the challenges, strategies, and successes of mainstreaming sustainable consumption. The conference can be attended onsite and online. All sessions (except workshops) will be fully hybrid-enabled, allowing for full participation as online participant. OUR CURRENT POSTER SESSION MODEL IS A JOKE. This video highlights a major flaw in the way poster presentations are organized at conferences. Too often, conferences accept as many posters as they have space for, without putting thought into how to truly engage the audience. Scholars are simply asked to hang their posters and stand by them for 2-4 hours, waiting—hoping—someone will come by. Afterward, they take their posters down and go home. But imagine this: a scholar has worked tirelessly for 2-3 years on a project. They’ve poured their passion, sweat, and countless hours into their research. Finally, they have the opportunity to share it with their peers, eager to spark conversations and dive deep into the details. Yet, there they stand, full of hope, and no one shows any interest. It’s not just disappointing—it’s heartbreaking. Conferences need to do better. They should actively encourage attendees to visit the posters, perhaps by offering incentives or organizing competitions where participants engage with the details of the posters. This would foster discussions, recognition, and appreciation for the scholars' hard work. These researchers invest years of their lives and significant financial resources to attend these conferences. The least they deserve is the attention and recognition their efforts warrant. The current conference model is failing them, and it’s time for a dramatic change.

An Abstract Submitting and Managing is an online platform that is used to organize conferences. It allows authors to submit their brief summaries of their research, which they want to present at the conference, as well as receive feedback from organizers and experts. It also helps conference organizers select and distribute abstracts by sections and sessions, as well as manage all aspects of preparing and conducting the conference. An Abstract Submitting and Managing system is needed to facilitate the process of submitting, managing and checking abstracts, as well as to improve the quality and significance of scientific papers that will be presented at the conference. It is also needed to make the conference more attractive and interesting for participants, as well as to increase its visibility and prestige. Knowing your audience is a primary key in communication. 🤣🤣🤣

CAIS is excited to announce the publication of a Special Issue article on the future of AIS conferences, "Editorial: What is the Future of AIS Conferences in Our Community?", by Cathy Urquhart, The Manchester Metropolitan University Business School and Lund University, Fred Niederman, Saint Louis University, and Arlene Bailey, The University of the West Indies, Mona. The abstract: "The future of AIS conferences, thrown into sharp relief by virtual innovations during the pandemic and the subsequent return to face-to-face conferences, is debated in this special issue. This editorial introduces the seven papers contained in the special issue and provides the context for the debate on the future of conferences in the AIS Community as well as pinpointing key contributions made by the papers in the special issue. The editors debate three questions: Are conferences still a viable means of academic exchange and community for the future? Given that both virtual and face-to-face options have opportunities and constraints, what can we do to have the best of both options? What consequences, intended and unintended, do new conference formats have for social inclusion and sustainability? We examine different types of hybrid formats and features and also consider the vexed question of how pricing may impact inclusion. We conclude with a call to consider that, for social inclusion, we have an obligation to make participation as rich as possible - some options should not offer a diminished experience. As outlined in this editorial and special issue, the challenges of making participation as rich as possible are manifold - but in doing so, we help both our community and the planet." What I learned over the years is that you need to find your target audience, schedule them to stop by, and the do focused discussion. This is not the original intention of poster session, but a more efficient strategy. For junior researchers with fewer connections, it's harder to make in this way. That's how they need their mentors- an important part of mentorship.

Funny visual but very important captioning.

A very interesting piece to read. In my opinion as a presenter, there are ways to get audience and people come see your work which are: * My 2 minutes Rule* - Make your poster as readable as possible and not too cumbersome . - Use bold fonts for your abstract. Good and short summary of your work. (200 - 250 words) - Discussions, figures and tables should not be too many. Make it colorful and attractive putting into consideration that there's a perfect color blend. Others include: - Before your poster presentation in each conference, look out for like minds and inform them on your poster presentation. (Prepare their minds to be inquisitive into your work). Market your work - Always have a happy and smiley face. Be approachable and smell nice. - Compliment people coming to see your poster. - You can have a side attraction like a jar of candy or sweets (approved by the organizers). This can be placed in front of your poster. - A complementary thank you card with your name/initials handed to everyone that comes to your poster. Also, you insert your abstract on the complimentary card. This makes you accessible and registers your work in your audience's minutes mind. *Not everyone will go through a conference handout thoroughly again, but, your complimentary card has given you a bigger leverage for more connections and collaborations*

A FEW YEARS AGO, I collaborated with a startup biotech. We participated for the 2nd time in a congress, which was a significant investment in money and time. I’m on the business side of science and needed to catch the attention at our booth. Dozens of huge booths surrounded us, competing for attendee’s attention. It was a carnival of bread and games. They had 20X our budget. I imagined a 5-questions quiz that would build awareness around our solution. Success was immediate. A smile, an A5 bulletin, and a question, “Do you want to challenge your hydrolysis knowledge?” were the only ingredients necessary. It was a blaster: curious attendees, great conversation starters, and a blast of new leads. CONCLUSION: Free food and drinks is an attendee iman. Yet gamification can level up the game while fostering interactions and knowledge.
