The hijacking of party primaries by incumbent governors, selection of loyalists as flag bearers, and prioritization of personal interests over the people's will, undermine the democratic process. In my state, the ruling party's primary election has become a sham, perpetuating the interests of the few at the expense of the many. This is a stark reminder that our democratic journey is fragile and requires constant vigilance. Yesterday, as Nigeria marked its 25th anniversary of democracy, Prof. Lilian Orogbu, a member of the House of Representatives, raised a critical question during the Green Chamber debate: How has democracy impacted the lives of Nigerians?
