Electrifying New York's School Bus Fleet 🔋🚌 New York aims to replace 40,000 diesel/gas school buses with electric by 2035 - a climate-friendly transition facing significant challenges. Voter opposition, higher costs ($250K+ per bus), and infrastructure hurdles have slowed progress in many districts. The one-size-fits-all mandate doesn't account for varied needs, with range and charging issues for longer routes and colder climates. Some call for a slower rollout, but early adopters show it's possible with strategic planning and funding. The public health/environmental benefits may outweigh the difficulties. What's your view on electrifying school transportation in NY? Let me know in the comments. #EVs #SchoolBuses #ClimateAction #NewYork #SustainableTransport

Did you know that California has one of the oldest school bus fleets in the nation? Last week, United's CA lead, Edson Perez, testified to maintain funding for zero-emission school buses. Old school buses pollute the air and endanger children's health. A school bus can be on the road for over 15 years and many school districts are deciding which buses to purchase today, but many districts with tight budgets need support to be able to afford clean buses. We must ensure that those who need it most have the necessary funding available to purchase zero-emission school buses. This is a critical investment to reach our EV goals and improve public health for California's youth. https://lnkd.in/eDTfUmWR

Today marks a significant step forward for cleaner, healthier communities. The Biden-Harris Administration, through the EPA’s 2023 Clean School Bus Program rebate competition, is funding 45 clean school buses for five Rhode Island school districts. Announced in Jackson, Mississippi, by EPA Administrator Michael S. Regan, NAACP President Derrick Johnson, and U.S. Representative Bennie Thompson, this initiative supports the transition to zero-emission vehicles, reduces pollution, and promotes American manufacturing. This is how we invest in our children's health and our nation's future. #SustainableTransport #CleanEnergy #InvestingInAmerica https://lnkd.in/gH3Su_Mi

🚍 Opportunity Alert for Illinois School Districts! 🚍 The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is considering a statewide application for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Clean Heavy-Duty Vehicles Grant Program. We are seeking confirmation of interest from eligible school districts to replace conventional school buses with zero-emission alternatives. The EPA will cover a percentage of the new vehicle costs up to the per-vehicle funding cap ($280,000*). Electric school buses and chargers cost approximately $350,000-$400,000 and organizations interested in collaborating with ISBE must provide or secure additional project-related costs as a non-federal cost share beyond the specified cap. 📩 Act Now! Interested and eligible school districts should email @cbyran@isbe.net BY TODAY with the following information: - District name, address, phone - National Center for Educational Statistics (NCES) ID for district: https://loom.ly/eHARMJM - Superintendent name/contact information; - Primary grant contact name/contact information; - Number of new buses requested; - Owner, make/model/VIN, and fuel type of buses that will be replaced and taken out of service; - Letter certifying school board support for grant; - Letter committing to local share (25%); - Letter of support from local electric provider; - Community involvement completed or planned regarding green initiatives or electric bus program; - Project readiness – if your district were awarded buses and chargers, describe the location and plan to install the chargers. Read the NOFO here: https://loom.ly/0G3o8Zo Don’t miss this chance to lead the charge toward a greener future for our students and communities! *ADA-compliant school buses are eligible for an additional $20,000 per-vehicle funding cap (i.e., a total per-vehicle funding cap of $300,000). #ElectricSchoolBuses #IllinoisEducation #CleanAir #AlternativeFuel #ElectricVehicles #AlternativeFuel

Electric school buses are a breath of fresh air for children, but there are still challenges to getting widespread buy-in, including cost, concerns about efficacy, and barriers to advocacy. "If you’re saving your sick time to help your child see a pulmonologist. You just can’t necessarily be the one who’s always going to be there on a weekday talking with a lawmaker." Health professionals can join forces with parents to be champions for cleaner rides for kids, pushing for funding and breaking down barriers. #ClimateChange #Health #ElectricBuses #Schools #ChildrensHealth #Asthma #CleanAir #AirQuality #ClimateIsHealth
