📌My real job is not my actual job. Nurses life,very fun and stressful I haven't really talked about my real job. I am a double certified Nurse (RN/RCTN) Although my BSN is still in view,due to my decision not to study in Nigeria again,for personal reasons. How can I pass through College of Nursing for 3years and still go for another 4years just to acquired a degree,that is 7years in total then add the strikes. You might not understand this logic if you aren't in the system,a lot of people do it,but I aren't one of them. Alittle good news to uplift your spirit,My specialization in Cardio-thoracic intensive care Nursing has been upgraded to a post graduate degree, So I actually have a post graduate without a degree isn't God wonderful. Outside the shores of Nigeria and some part of Africa,I get to study a year to get my BSN.To me it's worth the wait. Can you pay for a CPD session? Two complaints against CPD among nurses in Malawi (that I heard). 1.The content is not always suited for a Malawian context. 2. It's more focused on clinical practice. Nurses interested in research, project management, leadership and other nursing roles are not fully catered for on the platform. These claims can be debated upon but at the end of the day, CPD remains a personal initiative. You need to be personally interested in growing your career. Incase you think the CPD sessions offered inhouse(in our clinical area) or on the CPD Application are not suitable for you, try the paid CPD courses offered by different institutions. University of Washington offers a wide range of courses suitable for people in Public and Global health. The courses are affordable if you pay as a group. You participate in course work for 10 weeks and get your certificate thereafter. Would you participate in such a CPD opportunity?

👏I'm wrapping up the skills week aspect of my MSc pre-reg journey in the most exciting way possible. I'm calling it the "Praise's Global Nursing Skills Challenge! As nurses, we might all start IVs or check vital signs, but I'm fascinated by how these skills might look different across the globe. Maybe you're using completely different techniques I've never even heard of, that's exactly why I created this challenge, to learn from other professionals and broaden my nursing horizons beyond the UK. So for every day of my skills week there will be a focus based on the skills session for the day or one from previous sessions. Today is day 1 and the focus is: Spotting the deteriorating patient. Here in the UK, we rely heavily on NEWS2. I've grown to really appreciate this tool during my placements. But I'm really curious: what systems or tools do you use in your country? Maybe you're working in a remote clinic with limited resources and have developed amazing observational skills? Or perhaps you're using an even more advanced electronic system? Whether you're a nurse or healthcare professional in Australia, Nigeria, Canada, or anywhere else, I would love to hear about your experiences! How do you catch those early warning signs? Critical thinking is a basic skill that students need in all learning environments. It benefits students, leads to a deeper understanding of educational content, makes school experiences meaningful, and raises students' achievement levels. This week, I've focused on active listening and I what you to know you're already bringing so much compassion and care to your roles - it's one of the things that drew me to this profession in the first place as well. But did you know that through empathy, you can actually enhance your active listening skills even further? Awesome, right? Let's be real - our patients come from all sorts of diverse backgrounds, and they may express themselves in ways that don't always align with our own experiences. But when we listen with empathy, we can better grasp the unique needs, concerns, and perspectives they're bringing to the table. It's not just about hearing the words they say - it's about tuning in to the emotions behind them. That elderly patient who seems frustrated? They might be scared. That new mom who's giving short answers? She could be feeling overwhelmed. Empathy helps us see beyond the surface-level to provide truly personalized, compassionate care. One of the most powerful things we can do as nurses is to validate our patients' emotions. Simple phrases like "I can see how that's really difficult for you" or "I understand how stressful this must feel" can make a world of difference. When people feel heard and understood, they're more likely to open up and share crucial information. And even when language barriers exist, empathy is a universal language that helps build trust and foster stronger nurse-patient relationships. And you know what that open communication leads to? Better health outcomes and a deeper, more meaningful bond between you and your patients. When people feel safe, seen, and valued, they're more willing to be vulnerable and work collaboratively with you. This is especially crucial in the high-pressure, shortage-stricken environments we're navigating. Is nursing school really a school or a place of survival of the fittest? This issue is something I really use to think about, the mental drain in nursing school is just getting alarming each day. From the overpacked curriculum to finish within the stipulated period of time, to the bad policies being enforced by the leaders. Yesterday, I had a deep conversation with the SUG President of a nursing school in Southwest Nigeria(I don’t want to mention the name of the school). We discussed the struggles nursing students face across the country—especially how certain policies and systems feel more like obstacles than support. Why should nursing school feel like a battle for survival, where graduates thank God just for “scaling through”? The mental strain is real, and many students are simply programmed to endure rather than thrive. It’s clear: if we want a brighter future for nursing in Nigeria, policy reformation is a must. We, Gen Z nurses, need to step into leadership and politics to challenge these outdated systems and make education more student-friendly and productive. What are your thoughts?
