Sh. Deepak Gupta, Director (Projects), GAIL was an esteemed panelist at the 6th PSU Summit organized by The Economic Times - ETGoverment at Kochi from 21-22 Nov 2024 on the theme “PSUs Driving Digital Innovation to Achieve Vikshit Bharat”. The panel had an engaging and insightful discussion on the topic “New frontiers for the PSUs to achieve Energy Security and Sustainable Economic Development”. Speaking on the occasion, Sh. Gupta highlighted the role of Natural Gas to drive sustainable economic growth in India’s evolving energy landscape and provide a cleaner alternative energy source to enhance energy security. He brought to fore the significant contribution being made by GAIL to build the huge gas infrastructure to increase the usage of natural gas from present ~7% to 15% in primary energy basket in the country by 2030. He reiterated the need for an enabling policy framework to boost the consumption of natural gas by key industrial sectors such as Power, Petrochemicals, Refineries and Iron & Steel other than fertilizers and CGD. To promote digitalization and adoption of new digital technologies such as AI & ML in the organisation, Sh. Gupta underpinned GAIL’s reputation for being a digitally advanced organization and pioneering the deployment of latest & emerging technologies in its operations. The company is steadfastly expanding its natural gas network to support India’s energy transition while progressing in sustainability projects such as the expansion of compressed biogas (CBG) to meet national targets. GAIL is also focused on extending its pipeline infrastructure and integrating advanced technologies like AI and IT-OT systems to enable faster, more efficient operations and data-driven decision-making. In addition to these development efforts, the company is prioritizing the safety of its pipelines and communities along the Right of Use (ROU) by implementing advanced measures such as Pipeline Intrusion Detection (PID) systems, ensuring secure and reliable energy delivery.
