Artist Talks: Sunday, Sept. 22 | 2:00 PM | Trees, Water, Sun, Dwellings | Karen Klee-Atlin | Just Another Thought | Chaloupka, Descoteaux, Hefland | https://lnkd.in/gbaXDZqr | Just Another Thought | Chaloupka, Descoteaux, Hefland | This exhibition was originally meant to be Jacques Descoteaux’s solo exhibition. While the work of the three artists is significantly different, it seems to fit nicely on a continuum—from realism in Carole Chaloupka’s sculptures, to Jacques Descoteaux’s semi-abstract work, to Victor Hefland’s abstract sculptures. What seemed at first to be just another thought, eventually became reality – Just Another Thought. Trees, Water, Sun, Dwellings | Karen Klee-Atlin | My work centers on the natural world particularly where it meets with human disruption. To that end, I’m very interested in documenting the points where there may be a clash between conservation and commerce. This tension can be felt through the colours I use and through my choice of imagery.

In #UOI, we discovered that artwork can be created using various materials. We were especially inspired by sculptures that can be displayed on the beach and remain intact over time. We discussed which materials might last the longest outdoors or even underwater. In #Science, our curiosity led us to investigate waterproof materials. We collected various items and tested them to see if they could resist water. By experimenting, we learned to observe closely and record our results. This investigation helped us understand which materials are waterproof and why certain ones are more durable in wet environments—like the beach sculptures we discussed in #UOI. We learned that art and science connect in interesting ways, especially when thinking about how different materials work and how long-lasting art can be.  #PYP #International #Grade2 #Etonhill
