From January 15th to 17th, our project participated in the EERA DeepWind Conference 2025 held in Trondheim, Norway. Samuel Kainz from the Technical University of Munich, a key partner in the #SUDOCO_eu project, presented a poster discussing the environmental benefits of #windenergy, with a focus on optimising wind farm operations to maximise reductions in greenhouse gas emissions. The presentation introduced a method for adjusting wind farm operations to increase electricity output when fossil fuel-based energy consumption is high on the grid, thereby enhancing the environmental value of wind energy. The V&A Waterfront, together with German manufacturer LuvSide GmbH, have installed small wind turbines which form part of a pilot project of the Renewable Energy Solutions Programme (RES Programme) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action’s German Energy Solutions initiative. The small wind turbines offer an environmentally friendly and low-noise way of compensating for power outages. The innovative technology is not only quiet but also aesthetically pleasing. The four installed LS Double Helix 1.0 turbines offer an energy yield of several thousand kWh per year, depending on the wind power. Your favorite: Dr. Dreh. 👋 While the idea of giving wind turbines individual names may be more on the light-hearted side, increasing acceptance for wind turbines remains a crucial issue for the expansion of wind energy throughout Europe: According to WindEurope, the EU needs to add 33 GW of new wind capacity annually to meet its 2030 renewable energy target. And we are not yet on track. Community support is the cornerstone of sustainable development. That’s why we believe in: 👉 Engaging with local communities through regular updates and open forums to ensure that everyone is informed about a project's benefits and progress. 👉 Giving back to local communities through revenue sharing with municipalities and residents. 👉 Highlighting the economic advantages, such as job creation and local investment, to demonstrate the tangible benefits of wind energy projects. The “Renewables with the Territory Roadmap” outlines numerous measures, many of which focus on local and rural development, a central area of the Galicia Wind Observatory’s work. Among the highlighted measures is the importance of allowing local citizens and administrations to participate in the ownership of renewal energy projects.
