In 2024, a crack team of Building Control specialists (and Martin Barrett) was assembled to walk... yes, WALK... a grueling half marathon for a cause that truly matters. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them on the 18th of September, maybe you can support... The HBC-Team! Gary "The Master Planner" Cass – The man with the map (and the snacks). No step will be taken without his expert guidance... unless he’s distracted by a coffee break. David "The Pace-Setter" Aitchison – His legs move faster than building regulations get updated! He’s ready to walk like it’s the final inspection. Craig "No Obstacle Too Tall" McMahon – Whether it’s a kerb, a hill, or an unwieldy building control tracker, Craig tackles it all with a can-do attitude. Martin "Why Walk When You Can Run?" Barrett (Yes, another one! It’s confusing for us too...especially with Martin's back) – The motivator, the machine, and possibly the one we’ll have to catch up with. On the 18th of September, representing Hertfordshire Building Control, we’re trading in our hard hats for walking shoes, all for Hertfordshire Young Homeless – a cause that’s helping vulnerable young people get off the streets and into safe housing. There is a huge shortage of affordable housing in Georgia, leading many lower-income families to rent. However, rents are also increasing with high demand, leaving low-income families in a precarious position. HomeAid Austin currently has 12 varying projects in our pipeline, 4 of which are in need of a Builder Captain!!!👷🔨 HomeAid builds and maintains housing and programmatic facilities for local nonprofit organizations serving those experiencing or at risk of homelessness by leveraging our relationships within the building industry to garner in-kind donations of labor and materials. Being a Build Captain with HomeAid Austin means managing the construction or renovation of the housing project and securing trade donors such as carpenters, plumbers, insulators, and roofers, to provide labor, materials, and other services. Vendors are also an important part of our projects as they can donate and offer discounted appliances and other materials. Historically, HomeAid provides an average savings of 50% of the total cost of the construction project through in-kind donations of services and materials! Being a Build Captain is a vital role in our community and will have a lasting impact. HomeAid Build Captains can attest to the value and satisfaction of completing a project with HomeAid Austin!
