Decided to challenge myself this summer and signed up for a 60 hour Medical Statistics Program. First of all, wow! The online course is taught by Kristin Sainani and she put on a masterclass on how to teach. Not only has she made the world of statistics inviting and interesting, but in Part 1 (Descriptive Statistics) she simplified concepts that really help me critique my research skills, practice philosophies, and the medical practices. Her tweet (quoted below) really resonates with me and I will surely influence me when I am teaching others. "Science students: When you are struggling to read a scientific article, you might think that the problem is with you (e.g., that you are not smart enough or you don't know enough). But the problem isn't with you. It's with the poor quality of writing in scientific papers." Excited to begin Part 2 (Probability and Inference) and Part 3 (Common Statistical Tests in Medical Research). https://lnkd.in/gBir-8mU

"Reflections on Mixed Methods from the Nordic Conference in Nursing Research" Attending the first session on mixed methods at the #NordicConferenceinNursingResearch was a thought-provoking experience, especially after the PhD course I attended in September. We explored the challenges of balancing qualitative and quantitative data in dissemination, which brought me back to an important question: Is it still a qualitative evaluation if the data is generated through open-ended questions but not analyzed qualitatively? 🔮 This topic sparked lively debate during my course, particularly around the difficulty of presenting both data types effectively in mixed-methods papers. It's clear that while mixed methods offer rich insights, they also require careful consideration in the communication process to maintain clarity and impact. #MixedMethods #NursingResearch #QualitativeResearch #PhDJourney #NordicNursingConference
