Grateful to now have more understanding (and admiration!) for my Muslim colleagues after such an insightful webinar. Big thank you to our Deloitte Muslim Network for helping to raise awareness and share your experiences with us.
Some tips to help support Muslim colleagues over the upcoming weeks of Ramadan:
1. Flexible working - be supportive of adjusted working hours, in order to allow your fasting colleagues to effectively use their time and energy in the day.
2. Meetings - consider hosting meetings earlier in the day, rather than later in the afternoon, as energy levels may reduce as the day goes on.
3. Check-ins - schedule regular check-ins to ensure your Muslim colleagues are receiving all the support they may require, particularly when remote working.
4. Annual leave - be mindful when planning projects and managing deadlines that your Muslim colleagues will likely take annual leave in and around this month.
5. Communication - the most important of all - open, honest communication is key. Be brave, curious and open – don’t shy away from conversations about Ramadan.
I’m looking forward to taking part in the Deloitte Muslim Network ‘The Fast and the Curious Fasting Challenge’ in a few weeks and walking a day in your shoes.
