We had great time in Los Angeles! My first time in the city and instantly we hit the news with our presence. Maybe we'll gotta visit again. 😆 The story is in Finnish but in short I'm talking about how when the industry is having a moment of turbulence it is important to keep innovating and predicting the new growth vectors. We've built high quality HTML5/WebGL games for a long time and are now licensing our tools to others who want to do the same. There is a growing interest to embed games to different services and apps. #html5 #webgl #gamedevelopment #losangeles #finnishshowcase

Gamescom is this week and not many people know just how massive this annual gaming show in Koln, Germany is. Gamescom is one of my favorite shows. Tiny beers, massive booths, and hundreds of thousands of people. Not many know that over 320,000 people attended last year, and that it hit a record of 370,000 in 2019. The Koelnmesse is over 30 football (US) fields big and is going to be host to over 1400 gaming companies exhibiting their games with over 100 countries represented. I can't stress how insane those numbers are in a post-covid world. If you can navigate the crowds, (and handle the smell😳) it is one of the most impressive events in this industry. And without an E3, it really is one of the last bastions of in-person big gaming conventions. Are you heading to #gamescom? Are you looking forward to it or are you jaded like me?

Call for Papers: Beyond Play hosted by Zentrum für Medien-, Kommunikations- und Informationsforschung (ZeMKI) der Universität Bremen invites submissions that explore the transformative power of digital gaming in deeply mediatized society, how gaming shapes mediatization, digitalization and datafication of society and how games and gaming are conversely shaped by the same processes. ”This conference call hence builds on the premise that to understand the significance of digital games and gaming in a deeply mediatized society we need to look beyond play, i.e., the contents of games and the interaction with games alone. We call to go beyond reducing games to mere playing, examining their placement and connection within digital media environments as gamevironments to research how our communicative practices and their contexts transform through games, as well as how these games are reshaped through communicative practices. A perspective that goes beyond play indicates that researching games and gaming also allows for insights into the deepening of the mediatization and datafication of society.” Submit by June 15. https://lnkd.in/gMf6YiMk #CallForPapers

In today's gaming world, it’s easy to get swept up in the latest colourful, complex board games with layers of strategy and intricate mechanics. But sometimes, it's refreshing to step back and enjoy a game that has stood the test of time - one that was played centuries ago and still captivates today. We've just received a thoughtful review of Bagh-Chal, a traditional game from Nepal where one player controls four tigers and the other player controls up to twenty goats. Although it may appear simple at first (especially in comparison to today's complex board games), it quickly evokes tension and strategic depth. Take a look at the review here: https://lnkd.in/eEBMkTXi #MuseumGames #HistoricalGames #CulturalHeritage #PreservingTradition #AncientGames #MuseumExhibits #InteractiveHistory #HistoryThroughGames #TraditionalBoardGames #CulturalEducation #GamingHistory #HistoricalInterpretation #MuseumLearning

The video game crash in 1983 Back In 1983, US was hit by a massive video game crash that sent shockwaves through the gaming industry. The market was flooded with a flood of low-quality games, leaving consumers disenchanted and sales plummeting due to Atari’s large sales of pac man and similar games. They blindly believed the success of pac man and released prototype for their consoles which led to a huge disappointment among the gamers. Other reasons were, the huge number of consoles being released. This period led to the closure of many game developers, designers and companies, sparking fear and uncertainty throughout the industry. However, out of the chaos emerged a new era of innovation and a renewed focus on quality control that ultimately paved the way for what we now consider the golden age of gaming, characterized by groundbreaking creativity and high standards. The 1983 video game crash in US stands as a powerful reminder of the importance of upholding excellence and fostering creativity. The lesson we learn from this incident is the quality and not the quantity. By focusing on creating innovative and high-quality games, we can avoid oversaturation and keep players engaged. Let's keep the creativity flowing and maintain those high standards to ensure the gaming industry continues to thrive!
