I had the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone and participate in the highly anticipated srijana event held at PSG college, coimbatore. As someone who usually shies away from the spotlight, I was both nervous and excited to represent my college on a larger platform. Little did I know, this experience would not only push me to my limits but also leave a lasting impression on my personal growth journey. From the moment I arrived at the venue, the atmosphere was charged with energy and anticipation. Hundreds of students from various colleges had gathered, each eager to showcase their talents and abilities. Despite the initial nervousness, I found solace in the camaraderie among participants, all united by a shared passion for competition and excellence. As the event kicked off, I quickly realized that participating in the intercollege event was more than just about winning. It was about pushing boundaries, testing limits, and discovering untapped potential within oneself. For me, the highlight of the event was not the accolades or trophies, but the invaluable lessons I learned along the way. I discovered the importance of perseverance in the face of adversity, the power of teamwork in achieving common goals, and the significance of sportsmanship in both victory and defeat. Moreover, I forged new friendships and connections that transcended college boundaries, enriching my overall college experience. Of course, the journey was not without its challenges. There were moments of doubt, setbacks, and moments where I questioned my own abilities. It brought a smile to my face as that's what the endeavour has always been. How do you make learning fun? How do you make young minds want to pop back to engage willingly, curiously, pushing and questioning the status quo? Yes, much like what is said about the Art of Learning - it’s most enjoyable when it’s at the periphery of familiarity, with mini doses of newness and wonder weaved in everyday, topped up with a platform to engage thoughts. As the Indian Debate Contingents take off towards the most prestigious Debate Forums - The Oxford Union, The Cambridge Union and Harvard University School Invitationals, we look back with pride on this journey of the past 2.5 years. A quick business pivot from our current affairs-based critical thinking app with fluctuating DAUs, to scaling something that has become “Slightly mindful, Slightly playful” - #TheIndianDebatingLeague. These Learning Leagues are amongst the largest Peer-to-Peer Skills platforms with 70k students having debated with IDL, as aptly reflected by our mentors. It’s been phenomenal to experience restless children if we don’t post the next tournaments or patiently cajole the parents not to worry about the Debate Topics as their kids got this! And if they don’t, they now have the skills to find out where their opinion should lie. Hosting both Oxford and Cambridge Universities Debate tournaments, by launching the first-ever Indian Qualifiers Round, was a well-acknowledged recognition of the growing clout of Indian Students in debating circuits. Creating the Judging Ecosystem of International Standards, alongwith Higher Ed Debating Societies across IITs, National Law Colleges and Central Universities was a win-win to enhance the quality of thinking across.
