🌪️ **Monday Morning Reminder** 🌪️ This morning, our team meeting wasn’t about our weekly projects or deadlines, but about how we can support our colleagues, and friends who live in Florida right now. If you’re working with anyone on Florida’s west coast – coworkers, partners, vendors, or clients – and they’re not as responsive as usual, here’s why. The region is preparing for Hurricane Milton, the worst storm it’s seen in over 100 years. With potential storm surges and wind damage, no one knows exactly what to expect. **How can you help?** - If you can take over some tasks or calls for your Florida coworkers so they can grab last-minute supplies, they’d really appreciate it. - Encourage friends planning to travel to Florida to reschedule, so hotels can be used by residents. - Even a simple text to check in means a lot. Sending all our thoughts to Florida, especially Winter Haven. We’ll get through this together. ❤️💪

Good day for managers to be aware of exactly how large a threat Milton is posing to Florida, as NC and the surrounding region are still deeply in recovery mode. If you have team members or people with family or other ties to Florida, give them the emotional space they need to connect, prepare, and brace for the storm to hit overnight. And if people are interested in helping in the recovery effort, I hope organizations will be supportive of the urge to whatever extent possible (supporting supply drives, allowing people time off to volunteer in person, etc). And if you're not in / from Florida and haven't experience a hurricane or hurricane prep before, it's a good time to pause any judgment about what people "should" be doing -- there are so many considerations that you may not be aware of if you haven't been in those shoes that it would be near impossible to understand the considerations that are influencing every decision that people are making right now. As Hurricane Milton approaches, my thoughts are with everyone in its path. ❤️ Having family in the NOLA area, the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina is something I will never forget. When Hurricane Sandy hit New York, my dad, who had just become an arborist, witnessed incredible devastation. Here are a few tips to help you stay safe: Stay Informed: Keep up with the latest weather updates and advisories. Emergency Kit: Ensure you have essentials like water, non-perishable food, medications, and important documents. Fill up your pots and pans, even bathtub with water to make sure you have clean water! Secure Your Home: Reinforce windows and doors, and bring outdoor furniture inside. Evacuation Plan: Know your evacuation routes and have a plan in place. Stay safe everyone and to my cold calling friends make sure to be mindful you don't know how people may be affected by a natural disaster even if they don't live in FL. Check in on your prospects and clients!
