Dear LinkedIn Community, Giving Day 2024 is a 24-hour online giving event designed to empower every person to give back to their community by supporting local nonprofits and causes they care about. The one day event helps build awareness and support for nonprofits through a unique partnership. In 2023, $674,404 was raised through 2,732 donors benefiting over 78 nonprofits. This year we aim to raise even more and partner with a larger number of nonprofits around the US! We have big goals! In a world brimming with noble causes and charitable initiatives, it's imperative now more than ever to ensure that our contributions are directed towards reputable organizations that uphold transparency, accountability, and genuine commitment to their missions. This Giving Day, let's emphasize the importance of vetting organizations thoroughly to guarantee that every dollar donated goes towards creating lasting change. Equally crucial is the role of trained volunteerism in amplifying the impact of our efforts. While the spirit of volunteerism is undeniably powerful, it's essential to recognize that effective volunteerism goes beyond good intentions. By equipping ourselves with the necessary skills and knowledge through training programs, we can maximize our potential to effect positive change and address the root causes of various social issues. Consider donating just $5 towards Junior Service League of St. Augustine as part of your Giving Day contributions. Every small contribution adds up to create significant impact and brings us closer to our collective goal of creating positive change. Join us in making Giving Day 2024 a resounding success and a beacon of hope for those in need. Together, we have the power to create meaningful change and leave a lasting legacy of generosity and kindness. #GivingDay2024 #MakeADifference #VettedGiving #TrainedVolunteerism #CommunityImpact Give to Junior Service League of St. Augustine Inc. | Giving Day (givingday2024.com)

Individual donors contribute 68% of the $427 billion philanthropy industry. Yet, fundraisers often shield donors from having hard conversations about the practices and theories underpinning modern philanthropy and how they perpetuate the injustices and inequities nonprofits aim to eliminate. To pivot away from toxic charity toward a shared vision for community wellbeing that is transformative instead of transactional, we must: ➡️ Center race, equity, and social justice. ➡️ Be thoughtful about which funders we take on. ➡️ Share resources and ideas to foster a network of support. ➡️ Value time invested as equally as money. Community-centric fundraising calls for fundraisers and donors to grapple with and address the root causes of inequity, including the destructive effects of capitalism and how we may be complicit in furthering them through our practices. It's an opportunity to refocus our fundraising strategies on a more holistic approach. Want to learn more about grounding your fundraising strategies in equity and social justice? Thanks Perpetual Limited for sharing your recent philanthropy report covering ten years of insights. For us, a few takeouts that really resonated: 1. A 50/50 split in funding for new and existing projects. This represents a 22% increase, since 2015, for the funding of existing projects (data from Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission). For us, our core projects and programs have the most significant impact, so we welcome the increased focus on funding 'proven' programs which have the greatest need. However, like Perpetual, we do also recognise the importance and symbiotic relationship with funding innovation and pilot programs. 2. The importance of 'untied' funding to provide holistic support so organisations can be stable, sustainable and strategic in order to maximise their impact. 3. The gender lens remains crucial, as does the need to address under-funded areas, which often align with minority or marginalised groups who are overrepresented in negative socio-economic statistics. 4. Lived experience should never be underestimated. At Lou's, our approach is informed by the lived experiences of leadership and community. 5. The 'old truism that what gets measured gets done' is enduring and a key focus area for Lou's. #nonforprofit #philanthrophy https://lnkd.in/gmkhhN_F

💭 What would you do with unlimited resources? Blue sky! As a kid, it was all about saving the whales and feeding the children -- those iconic TV ads of the '80s that shaped my idea of philanthropy. Today, the possibilities are even more expansive. I would focus on urgent and transformative causes, like gender equity and ecological justice. I’d advocate for gender-equity regulations to drive change, clearly setting standards for pay equity, promoting work-life balance and supporting women in leadership roles. Imagine entire societies being uplifted by empowering women. On ecological justice, I’d launch a platform that rewards eco-friendly actions like reforestation, renewable energy projects, and pollution clean-up with credits towards education, healthcare, and other community benefits. Imagine protecting our planet and directly improving lives! A core priority would be an affordable housing framework bringing together policymakers, architects, and tech innovators to co-design modular, eco-friendly housing solutions. Modular housing concepts dating back to Expo ’67 have proven effective worldwide, providing flexible, sustainable, and quickly constructed homes. A few years ago, the Town of Cobourg had an opportunity to transform a provincial property, and ideas abounded to integrate modular homes with rent geared to incomes and rent-to-ownership. Access to safe, secure housing supports mental and physical health, improves access to education and employment, and provides a sense of community while alleviating pressure on so many nonprofits. Imagine transforming housing into a true community asset.

How can nonprofits capture those crucial year-end dollars while also respecting the well-being of their staff? That is the question our Hiver Shannon Cherry, APR MA asks in her debut article "Should Fundraisers Work the Last Week of the Year?" On one hand we know that 47% of nonprofits online revenue comes in the last week of December (with 20% coming in on December 31st!) On the other hand many nonprofiteers are wanting to celebrate their holiday season (3 major religions celebrate at the end/beginning of the year). As Shannon notes, fundraisers have a big role to play in year end giving : behind the scenes fundraisers are juggling: 1. Monitoring Campaign Performance & Technology 2. Managing Donor Inquiries & Resolving Issues 3. Collecting & Processing Mailed-In Donations 4. Reviewing and Updating Automated Messages 5. Tracking Matching Gifts and Pledge Follow-ups How does your nonprofit balance staff wellbeing with the fundraising crunch??
