This month, Galina Beliakova and Max Afflerbach attended the Frontiers Health 2024 Conference, where thought leaders gathered to explore the future of healthcare. Among the many compelling discussions, one particularly transformative idea stood out: What if we could prevent people from becoming patients in the first place? Here are three emerging trends driving us toward this future: 1. Rethinking the Concept of a “Patient” 💡 Traditionally, a "patient" is someone waiting for care, passively reliant on available treatments. But this is changing. Today’s individuals are taking charge of their health, proactively learning about their conditions and challenging traditional limitations with “Why can’t there be more options?” New tools, such as large language models, enable people to better manage their health, finding information and even diagnostic insights more quickly than traditional care may sometimes allow. This empowerment marks a shift toward continuous, data-driven well-being. 2. Preventive Care Models 🌱 Imagine a healthcare system designed to keep people from becoming patients at all. Preventive care is now moving to the forefront, integrating early intervention, monitoring, and personalized treatments that begin as early as possible. These proactive care models aim to embed health support in daily life, tailored to individual needs and reinforced by integrated technology and data. 3. Sustainable Innovation & Future-Back Strategy 🚀 To achieve these ambitions, healthcare requires sustainable business models and a “future-back” approach that focuses on long-term societal impact. Success depends on modernized approaches to regulatory approval, efficacy measurement, and ROI, as well as broader access to technologies and innovative care models that prioritize underserved populations. Collaboration among governments, payers, and industry innovators is essential to tackling core challenges and establishing preventive healthcare as the new standard. By combining consumer engagement, technological innovation, and visionary leadership, we at Sprint Reply are excited to help create a future where healthcare focuses on health, not just treatment. #FrontiersHealth #HealthcareInnovation #PatientEmpowerment #PreventiveCare #FutureOfHealth

Though a bit academic (but of course, it is because it is in an academic journal ;).... Good to see the focus on new strategies in Digital Health. Primarily agree with the first two points and can see the usefulness of the thinking....but less with the third. A bit overly simplistic. Great need to mix the academic and ground-level practicality together to make it useful. But regardless this is how it starts and moves forward...with discussion, strategy, implementation, learning and rinse and repeat. Worth a read. #DigitalHealthStrategies #HealthCarePlatforms #HealthTech #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalTransformation #StrategyOverhaul #HealthcareTech #HealthcareStrategy #TechInHealthcare #DigitalHealthcarePlatforms https://lnkd.in/dMkjRqwe

Debates about the value of digital health have been a part of healthcare since the beginning. On the one hand, it's obvious that digital health has value. But differences between technologies, health conditions, patients, settings of care, access and affordability, reimbursement--all of these factors and more make assessment of digital health tools a complex undertaking. Understanding the factors that make digital health effective is especially important when it comes to reducing the burden of health disparities, because there's no time to waste when it comes to avoidable illness, unnecessary lives lost and skyrocketing costs. After reading the initial report on Digital Diabetes Management Tools when it was released several weeks ago, today I did a deep dive into the digital health assessment framework developed by Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI) and Institute for Clinical and Economic Review (ICER). It's ambitious, involving extensive publication reviews, tech and market evaluations. It also incorporates perspectives from a purchasers, vendors and patients. It's true there's a long road ahead to elucidating the best use cases for any given digital health tool. But there's also cause for celebration: #Healthequity is integrated into two of three pillars of PHTI's assessment framework (clinical safety & efficacy and economic impact). There's VALUE...and then there are VALUES. It's so good to see that PHTI's framework reflects an ethic of care for vulnerable people. HLTH Foundation is taking part as an invited member of PHTI's Digital Health Collaborative and I'm optimistic about what we can achieve toward #techquity in healthcare. Thank you Meg Barron and Caroline Pearson for the opportunity!
