HIV continues to have a disproportionate impact on trans and gender diverse people. Yet, #trans men and other assigned female at birth trans persons are still excluded by omission across the HIV response globally. On top of that, anti-gender movements have severely impacted the health of our communities. What do you feel are the barriers keeping organizations away from including these communities? 1. They don't know how to debunk myths with facts (they might not have good data on trans men & #HIV) 2. They struggle to address key issues faced by trans men in an effective way Whatever the challenge is, be aware of our useful resources to effectively include trans men in the HIV response: Policy Brief: https://lnkd.in/ekbb9rnq Factsheet:https://lnkd.in/e5iuc7H4 Recommendations to Tackle Anti-Gender Opposition Impacting the Health Rights of Trans and Gender Diverse Communities: https://lnkd.in/ey64S7h7

In a groundbreaking report - AIDS AT A CROSSROADS, UNAIDS has revealed that fewer people acquired #HIV in 2023 than at any point since the late 1980s and #AIDS-related deaths have dropped 📉 to their lowest level since 2004. This milestone is a testament to the incredible progress made in the fight against AIDS. At the same time at least half of all people from key populations are not being reached with #prevention services. Persistent stigma and discrimination related to HIV status, gender, behaviors, or sexuality stand in the way. #HealthOriented #DrugPolicies are crucial in this journey, especially for key populations at higher risk of acquiring HIV. The report showcases powerful case studies and new data, illustrating how some countries are already on the right path 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQtajuMZ #AIDS2024 #UNAIDS #GlobalAIDSUpdate #EndAIDS2030 #PublicHealth #HealthPolicy #GlobalHealth

Today marks National Transgender HIV Testing Day, an essential moment to reflect on the progress we have made and the challenges that lie ahead in the battle against HIV for the transgender community. At Lambda Legal, we recognize the multifaceted battle our transgender siblings encounter – stigma, discrimination, and systemic inequalities – all of which compound the risk of HIV transmission and hinder access to vital testing and treatment. But today isn't just about acknowledging these challenges; it's about taking action. We’re calling on our community to prioritize their health today and every day. Get tested. Know your status. And remember, your health matters, your well-being matters, and you are deserving of respect, dignity, and comprehensive health care. ❤️🏳️⚧️ Learn more about our work and resources, and how you can take action at https://lnkd.in/e_tdGb73. #EndTheStigma #HIVAwareness #HIVTesting #HIV

🌍 Today is #WorldAIDSDay, and as part of our #16DaysOfActivism campaign, we’re raising awareness about the intersection between #HIV/AIDS and #GenderBasedViolence. Women and girls, especially in vulnerable communities, face higher risks of both HIV infection and gender-based violence. Violence often prevents women from accessing the healthcare and support they need, exacerbating the challenges they face in managing and preventing HIV. At BSAN, we believe that empowering women and addressing gender inequality are essential steps in reducing both HIV/AIDS rates and violence. Together, we can fight these interconnected crises and create safer, healthier communities for all. Let’s unite to end the violence and stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS and ensure access to healthcare for every woman, everywhere. 💜 #EndGBV #StopViolence #OrangeTheWorld #WorldAIDSDay2024 #BSAN #EmpowerWomen #HIVAwareness #GenderEquality #UNiTEtoEndViolence

Today is National Gay Men’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a reminder of the significant impact HIV continues to have on gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM). These communities face disproportionate rates of HIV diagnoses, largely due to barriers like stigma, discrimination, and social determinants of health that hinder access to care. It's critical that we work to expand access to HIV testing, prevention, and comprehensive care for these populations. By advocating for inclusive, respectful healthcare environments and offering confidential testing and counseling services, we can encourage more individuals to seek the care they need. Equitable healthcare access is necessary to make meaningful strides in the fight against HIV/AIDS for all, regardless of sexual orientation or identity. #thisispublichealth #hivaids #HIVCare

This week, we are invited to delve into an interesting #Research that underscores the intersection of #DisabilityAndHIV, revealing disparities in #HIV knowledge and testing access among people with disabilities. Across 37 surveys spanning six #UNICEF regions, men and women with disabilities demonstrated lower awareness of #HIVPrevention and testing facilities compared to their non-disabled counterparts. Particularly concerning were the findings indicating reduced knowledge on preventing mother-to-child transmission and lower HIV testing rates among women with disabilities. These results must serve as an alert call to governments to tailor disability-inclusive HIV programs, ensuring accessibility to information, education, and healthcare services for all. https://lnkd.in/eAsMT_yu #DisabilityInclusion #HIVAwareness #HealthEquity #AccessibleHealthcare #GlobalHealth

Spread the Word about the Link Between Syphilis and HIV. What’s the Connection? Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately impacted by syphilis, accounting for almost half (45.1%) of all primary and secondary syphilis cases among people assigned male at birth in the U.S. in 2022. During 2021 to 2022, the number of cases of primary and secondary syphilis among this population increased 4.0%. According to CDC, approximately half of gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men who have primary and secondary syphilis also live with HIV. Transgender women are also disparately impacted by both syphilis and HIV. And gay and bisexual and other men who have sex with men who are HIV-negative and diagnosed with primary and secondary syphilis are more likely to get HIV. That’s because having a syphilis sore makes it easier for HIV to enter the body. Syphilis is treatable and curable. However, having HIV can make syphilis harder to treat, especially if a person has advanced or untreated HIV. 🔗: https://brnw.ch/21wIZNN #STIweek #hivawareness #YouthInnovation #StopHIVTogether #HelpEndHIV #nationalhivconference2024 #PEPFAR #EndAIDS2030 Executive Director YOSACA.
