Monuments. Respect. Having respect for monuments should go hand-in-hand, yet it seems that many display a lack of respect for monuments, perhaps it is more because they do not know what a monument is and what it is for. A monument is a commemorative structure explicitly created to remember a person, an event or a historic period in time. Lest we forget its importance, a structure is erected to symbolize its significance to a social group or to mark a point in time. The mere fact that there stands a structure should command our automatic respect in honor of whatever it is that occurred. Therefore when a monument is defaced by vandalism or dishonored by inappropriate behavior we are doing a disservice to the memory of the person, place and time of our shared and collective history. A patrimonial preservation approach : It is in a desire to be linked to this rich and ancient history that we also acquire and restore 18th, 19th and 20th century archives, breathing new life into an emblematic French heritage that we help to preserve and which sit alongside our own creations. We are building up a collection of archive collections preserved in optimal conditions and digitized in very high definition allowing us to reproduce as faithfully as possible the appearance of old fabrics as well as original gouaches. This preservation approach makes it possible to document an era, a society, and to restore to view the richness of details whose contours had gradually dissipated over time.

In today's world, both evil and good are quickly learned. Unfortunately, authoritarian leaders and regimes that are in line to imitate each other and do everything for power are making decisions that are damaging to nature, affecting society and deepening violence. Many of these examples are acting in this way now, but they do not think about the consequences, how many generations will be affected, what the costs will be. This is why today's leaders, the intellectuals who support them or the lovers of violence will not be remembered well in the history of humanity and nature for their political behavior. All living and non-living beings - such as our cultural heritage - feel peace at the same time. This process takes knowledge, science, art and learning to build Peace Architecture.. ☮️🌱 Photo Ref/ Museen der museen, John Cage Selection @ Wallraf-Richartz Museum

Some of their names may still be familiar, but how many of us could say much about the majority of the late 18th and early 19th century captains, generals and admirals commemorated in the neo-Classical monuments of St. Paul’s? At best, perhaps, their names recall the battles on the Continent, or off its shores, in which some of them fell. And as the national story in which their names featured fades, its obverse emerges – a history of oppression, enslavement, resistance and liberation. “War and resistance in the Caribbean : Monuments in St. Paul’s Cathedral” is the second trail which St. Paul’s has created to represent some of these monuments in the context of the mercantile and imperial history associated with their subjects. It is the fruit of a collaboration with SV2G – St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2nd Generation, an African and Caribbean arts and heritage organisation. The result is a thoughtful and rich exploration of the experience of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars in the Caribbean, in which the engagement of those commemorated in the cathedral is set beside the experience of the indigenous and African people of the Lesser Antilles or the Windward Isles. The interpretation through nine monuments – provided in both written and oral forms – presents an appallingly violent passage of history in a way suggestive of its complexity, while leaving its audience to draw their own conclusions. In doing so, it extends the collaboration from 2V2G and St. Paul’s to encompass all those who follow the trail. “War and resistance in the Caribbean” is the successor to “The East India Company at St. Paul’s”, another trail, produced in collaboration with the Stepney Community Trust, which provides support especially to the Bangladeshi community in East London. Together, these trails prompt a conversation between the present and the past and reflection for us today, which should serve to advance the organisers’ objective “to understand shared pasts in order to shape our shared future”. They deserve a wide audience. https://lnkd.in/eNPpxtij https://lnkd.in/eSPPKaHA

A newly analyzed site, previously believed to be much younger, is now confirmed to be 4,000 years older, highlighting its unique significance in history. This finding not only elevates the monument's status but also emphasizes its unparalleled nature among ancient structures. To learn more about this remarkable revelation and its implications, read the full article here: [Cornish monument is 4k years older than was thought and 'without parallel'](https://ift.tt/jqPAFf3).

What draws you into historical masterpieces? What intrigues me the most about learning the history behind structures, on how they reflect the cultural, political, and artistic evolution of their time. Each building is rich with history and artistry, from ancient cathedrals to renaissance palaces and each building tells a unique story of the people who built it, the era it was created in, and the purpose it served. Exploring these masterpieces up close and discovering the stories they hold will be such an inspiring experience.
