“Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out”. I guess I better get up and actually do that 2-minute plank then, instead of just having it written down in my shiny new morning plan… The above quote by Robert Collier reminds us that success is built on consistently making small efforts over time. It can be applied to many areas of life, such as business, work, and personal growth, but I’m specifically interested in how it applies to overall wellbeing when viewed through an integrative, holistic lens. And guess what is required to optimise the lifelong interplay between our mental and physical health? Simple everyday practices such as prioritizing sleep, resistance training, diet… it’s all about neuroplasticity. Our brains aren't static; they adapt continuously, sculpted by experiences and intentional choices. This means that by actively engaging with our brain's plastic potential, we can rewire our brains, shaping our mental health, decision-making abilities, and even biological wellness. I’m no neuroscientist but Dr. Perlmutter’s simple explanations allow me to understand how, in our fast-paced digital age, neglecting to consciously influence our brain health can lead to a "bad brain state," dictated by external forces rather than our own mindful efforts. Understanding neuroplasticity empowers us to make transformative shifts, fostering resilience and mental agility. This podcast isn’t prohibitively long - 47 minutes - and makes such sense to me.
