💡 Creativity thrives in unique spaces—and sometimes, that space is a neon-lit cellar where ideas flow best. 💡 As a neurodivergent creator (do i say creator or chaos creature....books, screenplays, day job, family, fitness...), I know that my way of thinking, my approach, and even my workspace might not be everyone’s first choice (and that’s completely fine). Creativity isn’t about fitting in; it’s about finding the way that works for YOU and lets your ideas take shape, even if it looks a little unconventional. For me, that means leaning into the quirks, embracing the late-night bursts of inspiration, and working in a place where the sign reminds me: “We’re All Mad Here.” Because, really, who wants to be ordinary? I've got my chair upstairs, my specific seat in the living room and my cellar...I even have a seat in the woods at work where I go and meet a curious squirrel who watches me. Remember, your path doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, in fact id advocate you make a point of making your uniquely different for YOU. As creatives, we're taught that hustling is our only way to succeed in this industry. Self-promote! Take on more side gigs! Never say no to an opportunity, 'cause you never know what it'll turn into later! It's exhausting, isn't it? Not because you did anything wrong, but because you did everything right....if "doing it right" means playing by the rules, that is. Most of us got into the creative industry to inspire. To tell powerful stories. To craft big ideas, or immersive experiences, and bring them to life with the same magic and wonder that we see in our minds. But over time, we've learned that that's not often our reality. The rules we've been told to play by weren't meant to help us thrive. Or to give us the space to be more ourselves, to expand our talents and our ideas in a way that's nourishing, rather than depleting. But just because things have "always been done" a certain way doesn't mean we can't change them. The Organized Chaos of Creative Minds 🧠💡 There's a certain charm to a messy workspace, especially for creative minds. While some might see clutter, creative folks see a landscape of inspiration. Scraps of paper with unfinished sketches, half-read books overflowing with bookmarks, and tools scattered about – these aren't signs of disorganization, but rather the physical manifestations of a creative mind constantly buzzing with ideas. The key here isn't true messiness, but a purposeful use of space to cultivate inspiration. It's about surrounding yourself with the building blocks of your creativity, where everything you see can spark a new thought or ignite a fresh perspective. Think of it as a visual brainstorm, where everything is readily accessible to fuel the creative fire. Of course, there's a balance to be struck. While a little mess can be inspiring, too much clutter can become overwhelming. The ideal is a space that's organized enough to find what you need, but loose enough to encourage exploration and discovery. This way, you can keep your ideas flowing freely without getting bogged down in disarray.
