Just by talking about sustainability doesn’t make you cool. - Ditching Use and throw mindset and adapting reusing mindset - demanding and preferring products made from recycled material - disposing the used material in a way that it goes into recycling channels Don’t just talk about it, Act on it.
Today is #GlobalRecyclingDay, which inspires more people around the world to recycle. At Core Highways, we support Global Recycling Day, every day. Here’s how: ♻️ We have PPE recycling bins at multiple locations across the business, where used items of PPE are repurposed to ensure zero-to-landfill. ♻️ We work with a digital waste management provider to ensure our waste is collected and disposed of responsibly. In the last 12 months, 96% of our waste has been diverted from landfill to be recycled and reused. ♻️ We have made sustainable choices in our new branded merchandise range, choosing products that are either biodegradable, made from recycled materials and/or can be disposed of responsibly. ♻️ We have ‘EcoVis’ garments available in our PPE range, which are constructed from fabrics derived either from recycled post-consumer clothing or recycled plastic bottles. ♻️ Last year, we donated old pallets, cones, barriers and bases to a local primary school, where the materials were recycled and used to build a new play area on the school grounds. ♻️ The material offcuts from our rebranded depot signage and vehicle livery are collected and result in PVC Feed Stock, which is used to create various products including traffic cones, fence panels, rain boots, and children's swings – all items that can be recycled repeatedly. ♻️Our teams support their local communities through litter pickings and beach cleans throughout the year. How are you supporting sustainability of our environment? First .... what does that even mean? Sustainability as I've read it is defined as our "ability" to coexist with the environment without depleting earth's natural resources or harming earth's natural resources. I question the word ability. After all aren't we able to consider how something can be naturally disposed of if we wanted to without harming the environment. If sustainability is so important, why isn't disposability considered for everything we manufacture when those things reach the end of their life or usefulness? Anyway I am supporting sustainability by using Thirty-One's essential storage totes and large utility totes which are made from recycled plastic bottles rather than using those flimsy throw away plastic bags from the grocery stores. What even IS a sustainability policy, and why do you need one? Forming a sustainability policy for your event can seem overwhelming, but taking things one at a time can be conducive to making a meaningful change. We wanted to highlight 3 manageable actions which have huge knock on effects for some Monday motivation! 🧀 Source your produce locally - Lessening your produce imports can majorly reduce the carbon footprint of your event, and supports the local economy to give something back. 🚍 Encourage attendees to arrive via public transport - Arranging easy public transport access to site or giving guests incentive to utilise public transport lowers CO2 emissions and prevents congestion (keeping you in the local's good books). ♻️ Ditch the single use plastic - Replacing your single use plastics with biodegradable or reusable materials can cut back on waste which is a headache to dispose of and leaves lasting pollutants sitting in landfills, or worse, our oceans. Adopting just one of these practices is a big step towards negating the effect of your event on the environment, allowing you to plan in peace. It’s Conservation Week so we couldn’t think of a better moment to announce the publication of our 2023 Sustainability Report. The full report is available on our website and below are some highlights of what we achieved in 2023 that we’re really proud of: 🚗 We increased the proportion of hybrid vehicles in our sales fleet from 71% in 2022 to 93% in 2023. 🌊 We commissioned our onsite wastewater treatment plant at our DB Draught site in Timaru, reaching our goal of treating 100% of our wastewater before returning it to the environment. 🚮 We activated a circular economy solution at DB Draught, composting the wastewater treatment by-product and keeping it out of landfill. 🌈 Our employee wellbeing, diversity, equality and inclusion program, WholeMe, is being rolled out across other HEINEKEN operations. 🍃 We have reduced our production-related carbon emissions by 45% since 2018 without using offsets. 👩🎓 In partnership with Life Education Trust, we reached 21,393 students across 96 schools with our industry alcohol education programme, SMASHED. https://lnkd.in/gG9Wkf-6

Seeing our clients align with this stance is truly wonderful. 🌱 Take a look at how Kauno Grūdai is making a difference: They're changing the game by offering their organic products in doypacks, a sustainable packaging solution that slashes carbon emissions by 67% compared to cans and glass jars over the product lifecycle. ♻️ This product features energy-efficient production and transportation processes, alongside minimal residual waste, all while being BPA-free. Additionally, Kauno Grudai takes the extra step of processing the plastic for packaging in-house, which further decreases CO2 emissions by avoiding the need for external processing. Overall, 97% of their organic products packaging is recyclable, and 61% is made from renewable resources. We're proud to play a significant role in this sustainability effort, aiming to reduce the carbon footprint globally. Let's take action now for a better tomorrow! 🌍💜
