𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿! Yesterday a consortium of industry organizations, sent a Joint industry statement to European Policy makers, calling for thoughtful and science based reuse policies for transport packaging. It recommends to exempt flexible formats for transport packaging from the #PPWR reuse targets (art.26, paragraphs 12 and 13). https://lnkd.in/gPEdGzfS When I read it correctly, there is doubt about the functionality and safety of flexible transport packaging, when reused multiple times. I can follow this thinking to a certain extent, e.g. that this may apply to pallet wrapping foils etc., 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗲𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗼 #𝗙𝗜𝗕𝗖'𝘀 (𝗙𝗹𝗲𝘅𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗸 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗼𝗿 #𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗯𝗮𝗴𝘀). FIBC's in a 6:1 or 8:1 specification (ISO 21898) are specifically designed to be used multiple times. In fact many FIBC users have been reusing 6:1 and 8:1 FIBCs for 30 years and more, without a doubt about functionality and safety features. Just think about this: In Europe alone, each year 120 mio FIBC's , representing approx. 350,000 tons of virgin Polypropylene are put to waste, at best downcycled, because they are simply considered to be single use. Reusing FIBC's easily saves 50-70% CO2 emissions versus single use. It's crazy not to reuse more, because there is long time proof that it works, and the product itself is designed for it!. It's no secret that vape consumption has gone gang busters in recent years, and this is a problem because vapes now represent a significant portion of difficult electronic waste. When items like vapes end up in general waste or household recycling bins, they pose a safety risk due to the energy-dense batteries contained within. When discarded we are also losing valuable minerals such as lithium and aluminium, and of course, if not recovered for reuse they may have impacts on the environment if not managed properly. Ultimately, vapes are problematic for a bus load of reasons – as the article below highlights, these products are not designed to be easily recycled. Veolia estimates the cost of properly dismantling and recycling vapes is at least $5 per item, which is not viable without a properly-funded national scheme. We can solve this, we just need to decide if we want to. https://lnkd.in/gUPH8m58

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the ROBUST project, a groundbreaking Turkish-Hungarian R&D cooperation aiming to tackle sustainability challenges in the consumer goods manufacturing industry. Our mission? To scale up the recirculation of resources through innovative chemical recycling of polyurethane foams (PUF). ROBUST focuses on sustainable manufacturing of PUF-containing products, particularly in mattress production and plastics value chains. We will explore the chemical recovery processes of flexible PUFs through acidolysis and glycolysis, valorizing both components for flexible foams, adhesives, and coatings applications. This pioneering approach offers a solution for converting HSR into high-value products. Stay tuned as we test and validate these recycled materials at pilot scale, pushing the boundaries of sustainable innovation! 🌱🔄 #Sustainability #Recycling #Innovation #PUF #CircularEconomy #ROBUSTProject #R&D #ChemicalRecycling #TurkishHungarianCooperation #EcoFriendly #GreenManufacturing#SmartEureka

Even if we can recover and recycle more plastic to a higher quality in a circular economy, we still need to make sure that the products made using it will compete to be purchased in the market. The CSIRO Roadmap notes that “the single biggest need is to create more markets for recycled plastics, which will underpin confidence for investors to build recycling infrastructure.” Plasgain Pipe Manufacturer and Lighting Solutions in #Drouin #Gippsland are doing their bit by making high quality products using recycled plastic into the market for urban development and infrastructure projects. Their CEO Glenn Gambetta will be sharing lessons and learnings from an Australian Manufacturer living and breathing Circular Economy at the upcoming Gippsland New Energy Conference in Traralgon on the 4th Sept #GNEC24. There so many opportunities for the Circular Economy to play a part in decarbonising infrastructure in the Clean Energy Transition underway in Gippsland. As well as our 1.2 metre Electrical Cable Covers, Plasgain now has the ability to produce the cable covers in rolls; 200mm and 300mm wide up to lengths of 25 metres. As per the slabs, the rolls are Australian made from 100% recycled post consumer waste and complies to AS/NZS 4702. To learn more about our product: https://lnkd.in/eymQA-g7
