Ganga Expressway: Transforming Connectivity Across 75 Villages in Kashi The route of the Ganga Expressway has undergone a significant change, extending the project from Prayagraj to Ballia via Varanasi. This extension will directly impact 75 villages in Kashi, with the process of land acquisition set to begin shortly. The expressway will not only enhance regional connectivity but also reshape the infrastructure and livelihood in these areas. The development of a 6-lane expressway from Varanasi through Ghazipur to Ballia is accelerating. The survey for the second phase of the expressway has been completed, and the next step is land acquisition. Most of the land will be acquired from villages in Ghazipur, with 64 villages from Saidpur and Mohammadabad tehsils, 55 from Sadar tehsil, and several from Jakhania included in the project. In Varanasi, the expressway will pass through 53 villages in Sadar tehsil and 22 in Pindra tehsil, with villages like Paranapur, Raipura, Ramdattapur, and others identified. I recently traveled by train from Lucknow to Varanasi via Ayodhya on the Bande Bharat Express, which provided a comfortable experience, except for the abundance of sweet snacks. However, the noise level in the compartment was excessive, primarily due to loud phone conversations and video watching without earphones. The most remarkable aspect was the large number of tourists from Ayodhya, hailing from various parts of the world, who disembarked at Varanasi. This ancient city, with a rich history spanning 2500 years, is struggling to adapt to recent development initiatives, despite generating new revenue streams from boat rides to Airbnb. The city's daily celebrations are marred by the disregard of its residents, tourists, pilgrims for civic amenities, including traffic rules and cleanliness. Several upgrades are necessary, including modernizing the drainage system and implementing smart traffic control. However, the question remains whether these upgrades can be sustained. This raises concerns about the country's education standards, as a developed nation is characterized by its citizens' basic education. We must ask ourselves if we are truly educated, given our continued struggle with civic sense. Can any policy effectively address this issue?
