In the first quarter of 2024, KONGSBERG maintained its positive trend by achieving growth, solid financial results, and a robust order intake. 26% growth and EBIT of NOK 1.46 billion in the Q1 2024. There was solid growth in all business areas in the first quarter compared to the corresponding quarter in 2023. Key takeaways: • Strong growth across all business areas • The order backlog grows, and missile capacity is further expanded • Sustainability and safety are main drivers • Will continue to grow and deliver solid results Growth was highest in Kongsberg Maritime and Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace, which increased operating revenues by MNOK 778 and MNOK 1 394. There was also solid growth in Kongsberg Discovery and Kongsberg Digital, which increased operating revenues by 16 per cent and 34 per cent respectively. “We’ve achieved a quarter of growth and strong results. Big news for Advanced Navigation. We’ve signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Hanwha Aerospace and Hanwha Defence Australia to co-develop strategic-grade #APNT solutions. Under the agreement, we will collaborate on the development of high-performance inertial navigation systems (INS) for autonomous and crewed systems in GNSS-contested environments across land and air domains. The solutions will be integrated into Hanwha’s global supply chain, aiding the advancement of the broader strategic APNT interests for Australia and international markets. While the V-280 could operate alongside the Marine MV-22, it is difficult to see how it (or any other aircraft in development) could replace it.

Misdirection during a critical time-- I want one of these. I love the advances of tech. The DoD needs to spend some funds every year to explore what's next. But what is the mission of this beyond fielding tech (eVTOL)? The article talks about freeing up larger airlift aircraft, specifically in the Pacific where logistics flexibility will be at a premium. But this is not it, not even close. So many technical challenges this creates/does not solve-- 1. 'Refueling'--electric power is not magic, is generated from other sources of power generation. Where is the infrastructure around the Pacific to handle the demand this creates? 2. Carrying capacity--This is great if you want to deliver the letter mail to the next island. Anything heavier will have to wait for that C-130. 3. Range--VTOL requires a ton of energy compared to a conventional lift aircraft. That lift requirement will eat up the stored energy of the batteries, dramatically reducing any consequential range. Great for delivering small tools from an aircraft hangar to the arming crew at the end of the runway. Anything else, not so much. Keep plucking away at the tech. Operationally, we should stick to UTVs and C-130s until the scientists are done. Stop curtailing capacity across the fleet for these science projects. #techdevelopment #dodcapacity #innovation #evtol

“General Atomics is developing its next generation of UASs for the USAF by embracing automation. In 2020, a company spokesman said, "This includes automatic take-off, landing, and remote taxi, and a portable aircraft control system for aircraft launch and recovery that eliminates the need for forward-deployed launch/recovery crews." Additional improvements include upgrades to the existing Ground Control Station (GCS) used by the Reaper. These enable a single pilot to control up to six Reapers, and that technology will likely transfer to the new program.” This paradym of automation when applied to the industrial / commercial processes will revolutionize productivity. Imagine human operator supervising 6 semiautonomous production processes; 6 stations for producing Pharma products, 6 stations in producing automobiles, 6 customer fronting processes etc.

Defence industries should be includet as part of EU Taxonomy critereas. Investments in defence industries have to be promoted.
