Accessibility for learners with disabilities matters a lot, and while technology is not a magic bullet for overcoming their challenges, it offers countless opportunities. I am glad that the advocacy brief on learners with disabilities and technology is finally out! The brief summarizes some of the key findings from the #2023GEMReport on disability, outlining concrete actions that decision-makers can take to ensure that technologies follow universal design principles and improve access to learning for learners with different types of disability. The brief builds on the discussions that started during an event organized with Inclusion International in October 2023 on how to use technology for inclusive education. It is endorsed by organisations who work very hard every day to imrpove access to inclusive and equitable education for learners with disabilities: Light for the World CBM Christian Blind Mission Humanity & Inclusion and Asociación Azul. We invite you to download the paper and share it with people who may be interested in this cause: https://lnkd.in/erwTGJme Nafisa Baboo Julia McGeown Sergio Ramírez-Mena Mónica Cortés Avilés Sue Swenson Diane Richler Dorodi Sharma Federica Settimi

Did you know 2.41 million students in the U.S. battle with learning disabilities? Yet, our education system often fails to meet their specific needs adequately. This isn't just an oversight—it's a call to action. Our #LDDayofAction represents a movement demanding substantial reforms. Key initiatives like the RISE Act and the Keeping All Students Safe Act aim to dismantle the outdated barriers these students face daily. These laws are necessary steps toward building a truly inclusive educational system. Let’s not just accommodate our students with learning disabilities—let's uplift them. By supporting these initiatives, we can create a more inclusive learning environment for all students. Learn more and get involved! Recent research highlights the critical role that social and emotional skills play in academic success for all students, but particularly for those with disabilities. In a new blog post for Disability Pride Month, ACT researchers Dr. Cristina Anguiano-Carrasco, Dr. Nola Daley, Dr. Jill McVey, PhD, and Accessibility and Strategy team members Mira Monroe and Allyson Vignola share how they are working to support the academic success of students with disabilities through newfound data and the continued promise of a fair and equitable testing experience for all. “Standardized testing practices have evolved to better accommodate students with disabilities, and ACT has been an industry leader at every step in that evolution,” they write. “Our evolution of standardized test development and delivery practices reflects a growing recognition of the diverse needs of students with disabilities and a commitment to providing equitable education opportunities.” Read the blog post to learn more about which skills play a key role in priming students with disabilities for success: https://lnkd.in/eBHHWsKT #DisabilityPrideMonth #DisabilityPride #ADA #StandardizedTesting #ACTTest
