🌍 On the 9th of August, the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, we celebrate Indigenous communities' rich cultures, languages, and knowledge systems. These 476 million people across 90 countries have a deep connection to their lands, and their sustainable practices offer valuable insights into preserving our planet. 🏞 Unfortunately, despite their significant contributions, Indigenous peoples often face challenges like land dispossession and cultural erosion. Sustainable tourism can play a crucial role in supporting these communities by respecting their rights, protecting their lands, and celebrating their traditions in a way that benefits them directly. 🎓 Educating ourselves is essential. The UN and other organizations provide resources to help us understand Indigenous rights and promote ethical tourism practices that honor and sustain these communities. 🌱 Let’s commit to responsible travel that uplifts Indigenous peoples, preserves their heritage, and ensures their voices are at the forefront of sustainable tourism. One of my favorite adventure tourism companies in Vietnam combines sustainable tourism with improving the livelihoods of local people *most of them are farmers. It is a perfect choice for those who love adventure. The founder Chau A Nguyen always strives for core values for the local community, I have followed him for a long time and admire how he builds his company’s core values. I hope that Vietnam will have more entrepreneurs like him. If you love adventure, you can experience a tour of the world’s largest cave. Not bad, ha? #oxalisadventure

I am honored to share that my article, “Transition Towards Sustainable Fishing and Tourism: The Case of the Ustica Island, Sicily”, developed during my assignment as a United Nations Volunteer, has been published. The article has been prepared as part of the report "Towards Circular: Analysis of the Coastal Areas of Greece, Italy and Spain" by Think Tank AlterContacts, an NGO in Special Consultative Status with ECOSOC. As we reflect together as a human community about protecting this big globe that we live on together, it is important to also reflect on travel and how it impacts the environment. Here are some ways that we can make sure that our travel has 🌳 Specifically look to work with travel companies and providers that are actively working on ways to reduce the impact that their company makes. Many of our travel partners are making great strides in this, and we can help you connect with them for your trip. 🌳 Stay longer in each destination: When you are traveling, each time you move to a new state our country, the transportation that it takes to do that creates more of a negative environmental impact. You can lessen that impact by staying longer at each place (so perhaps instead of going to Europe and going to three countries, you spend more time exploring one more deeply). 🌳 Seek to visit and support states and countries that are making big moves to be greener and have less of an impact on the earth.
