Urging organizations in the "aging at home" space to NOT recreate the silo'ed thinking that emerged from the FFS acute-care bias of the past. NEVER just a "worker safety" issue. COULD IT ALSO BE a "PATIENT SAFETY" issue too? What else does the patient need to make that home safe? An emphasis on "low cost" is dismaying when the goal should expand to include improved patient outcome - which means sometimes you INVEST in an intervention for MARGIN. Especially in the home, when there is no "supervised environment" EXCEPT AS PROVIDED THROUGH THE WORKERS ENTERING THE HOME. THINK DIFFERENTLY about what "worker safety" means.

As Tropical Storm Debby impacts SC, Doctors Care faces tough decisions regarding office closures in the Low Country and Beach regions. Due to flooded roads and downed trees, safety concerns have made access to some of our centers impossible. A written policy, as recommended by Alan Ayers in a 2014 JUCM article, is vital. This policy should cover patient and staff notifications for closures, the handling of lab test results and x-ray readings finalized when centers are closed, and the decision-making process for when it is safe and feasible to reopen. Fortunately, our telemedicine platform - Doctors Care Anywhere - is prepared to help meet the healthcare needs of affected communities. #Healthcare #CommunitySupport #TropicalStormDebby #SafetyFirst
