Yesterday, thanks to the invitation from Aylin Uysal, I had the honor of being a guest speaker at the Learning Day of the SSE & University of Exeter Social Impact Programme 2024. I was thrilled to share my journey and insights as a graduate of the 2022 program (also a big fans of the program!). This incredible initiative partners University of Exeter with School for Social Entrepreneurs to offer students a unique opportunity to partner with social enterprises in Devon and Cornwall to solve business challenges and drive social impact. 🏋️♀️ During my time with Inspiring Women Network, I focused on business model consultation and strategic planning. I was immensely grateful for the support and trust I received from them, which empowered me to apply my skills effectively and contribute meaningfully to their mission. 💥 To the passionate students eager to make a difference, here are my top three simple tips for maximizing your internship: 1️⃣ Project Management: Treat your internship like a mini project. Set realistic targets and timelines with your social enterprise to establish long-term benefits to the business. 2️⃣ Proactive Engagement: Even if you’re working solo or remotely, be proactive. Ask questions and connect with teammates. Discover their approaches to your tasks. 3️⃣ Backend Insight: Understand the business from the backend, not just the front end. For international students, compare and learn from the differences between the UK and your home country. Yet, don’t hesitate to bring your unique skills and experiences – they offer new perspectives to the business! This meaningful SSE internship experience has prepared me to join On Purpose International work professionals scheme afterward, where I have contributed to civil services and the healthcare sector, and met many amazing professionals. If you’re interested in hearing more about my journey as a HongKonger diving into the UK’s business and social innovation landscape, feel free to connect :) #SocialImpact #SSE #UniversityOfExeter #InternshipTips #BusinessInnovation #SocialEnterprise

Dear Network, I am excited to share that, as of the first of July, I have started an internship at Invest International. About My Project During my internship, I will focus on laying the groundwork for a clean mobility strategy by addressing the following questions: What are the major global developments in the clean mobility transition? What are the strengths of Dutch businesses in this field? And finally, how and who can we best support with financing their export and investments abroad (both in Europe and emerging markets) to create impact? Why Give Up My Summer Holiday? I see this summer internship as an important step in developing myself into a well-rounded engineer. My master's in Sustainable Energy Technology mainly focuses on the engineering side of the energy transition, unfortunately neglecting the economics behind it. In my view, understanding the business models and finance behind the technology is just as important. For this reason, I took up the challenge and sought (and found) an internship that could fill this gap. About Invest International Invest International's goal is to create impact on global challenges through Dutch solutions. They help businesses, governments, and investors finance and develop impactful projects that contribute to achieving the SDGs. Looking forward to the coming months, Maurits Looking for an internship?
