Great article from MIT Technology Review on how a Seattle industrial facility is recycling nutrients from human and livestock fecal waste so that it can be used as agriculture fertilizer. The facility uses the Varcor system, which is owned by our platform company Generate Upcycle and designed by Sedron Technologies. As the article explains, humans have a long history of making fertilizer from our fecal matter. Now, fertilizer is in short supply, and this technology is providing a vital resource to US farmers while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. We are proud to support this important (albeit a bit unsavory) work! Read the article: https://lnkd.in/gqs6SZgb

There is a lot of talk on the agritech sector. Lots of "impact investors" are channeling their capital towards the agritech industry. My critical lens on agritech is simple. It leads to "economies of scale". It means that agriculture resources will be sourced from a specific seed, fertilizer, pesticides provider, technology infrastructure will also be from a specific service provider, and also, only specific set of buyers(who control retail) would be available to buy.

The Power of Testing: Lessons from Manufacturing and Agriculture In my years in electronics manufacturing, I’ve seen how precision testing saves time, resources, and money by identifying issues like incorrect components. This concept applies to agriculture too—soil testing helps farmers pinpoint nutrient deficiencies and apply the right fertilizers. Just like testing ensures the right components in manufacturing, soil testing ensures healthy crops, reducing waste and promoting sustainability. Testing in any field is about driving efficiency and preventing costly mistakes.
