An end of term report published by HMG yesterday. Lots of detail but takeaway from the report is we are not bold enough on connections reform, network delivery or flexibility and dealing with these piecemeal isn't going to get us to net zero efficiently. On the policy reforms for Ofgem and Transmission the core recommendation is spot on "We recommend that the Government and Ofgem work together to encourage anticipatory investment where it is apparent that new demands on the system are likely. This should be done through clear direction based on the Centralised Strategic Network Plan, as well as through targeted market incentives and reform of the network price control review process." I would add network companies into the mix in a collaborative approach for the CSNP. The challenge for Ofgem is to allow companies to move at pace, whilst protecting consumers from excess costs and maintaining market confidence. This will need a big increase in trust between regulators, government and companies.  But everyone needs to step up and start explaining things to consumers and bill payers.

Judy McElroy, CEO of Fractal Energy Storage Consultants, recently announced the launch of the “Texas 10” BESS projects—two standalone ERCOT DG battery energy storage systems (BESS) located in Victoria and La Salle County, Texas. With a combined capacity of 19.98 MWac and an expected in-service date of Q2 2026, these projects are set to play a critical role in enhancing grid reliability in the South Load Zone.
