🚨 A recent study from Yale School of Medicine sheds light on a critical issue in healthcare: how AI bias can exacerbate healthcare disparities. Published in PLOS Digital Health, the research highlights the various stages of AI model development where bias can creep in—training data, model development, publication, and implementation. The findings emphasize the concept of "bias in; bias out," meaning that if the data used to train AI is biased, the outcomes will be too. It is essential to recognize that the computer does not introduce bias. It only reflects the bias that exists. The problem is that you can then put bias on steroids through these models.
