🌊 Exciting news from #OCEANS2024! 🌊 SeaTrac’s Hobie Boeschenstein attended the OCEANS Conference in Halifax and was thrilled to have connected with Dr. Jason McKenna from The University of Southern Mississippi. During the conference, McKenna presented on the topic of our recently published joint case study detailing the use of uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs) to map potential hypoxic levels in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. As detailed in the case study, late last year SeaTrac deployed one of its SP-48 USVs for a 14-day mission to collect data offshore. Following the success of that initial project phase, USM is now utilizing multiple SeaTrac USVs to collect additional data that will help the institution understand how hypoxia impacts marine life and ultimately how we can enable a more sustainable U.S. Gulf. This is a major milestone for our collaboration, and SeaTrac is proud to see our remote marine data collection abilities showcased on such a prominent stage. Check out the full case study for more details on how we're advancing marine research with industry leading USVs: https://bit.ly/3zlBSmn #uncrewedsystems #marineindustry

On 23 October, the first #MASS #NorthSea MoU Symposium was kicked off by #Belgium (FOD Mobiliteit en Vervoer / SPF Mobilité et Transports). The event brought together national administrations, class societies, technology providers and the broader maritime industry from Belgium, the #Netherlands, #Norway, #Denmark and the #UK to discuss Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USVs). Uncrewed Surface Vessel, commonly known as #USV, is a robotic, remote-controlled or #autonomous watercraft that operates on the surface of bodies of water without a crew onboard. To guarantee safety, security and environmental standards when it comes to new innovations such as the USV, the five MoU Member States presented their current national legal framework at the symposium. The representatives then proceeded to discuss the procedural and operational similarities and differences, priorities under the MoU and the role of classification societies in a discussion moderated by KBRV’s Maritime Innovation & Sustainable Finance executive, Hélène Smidt. A key discussion topic was prescriptive regulation versus a more risk-based (case-by-case) approach. Prescriptive regulation, on one hand, provides clarity through well-defined rules that reduce ambiguity, making compliance more straightforward and uniform. However, such standardized rules can sometimes be overly rigid, limiting flexibility in adapting to unique situations or industry innovations. Conversely, a risk-based approach offers the flexibility to tailor solutions and fosters innovation but may lead to inconsistencies, as different companies might operate under varying standards, and it requires significant resources. There is a wide spectrum between these approaches and a legal framework at this stage should blend elements of both. To add another layer of complexity, most USVs are unique, varying significantly in size and purpose, making a one-size-fits-all solution is unlikely. Therefore, USV operators can contribute to regulators' confidence in new technologies and operations by openly discussing their failures. The value of this MoU is in strengthening cooperation and mutual recognition among the signatory countries through regular sharing of knowledge and experiences to better align and harmonize their respective frameworks. When asked what inspired them most from one another’s presentations, the panellists mentioned the UK’s Workboat Code, Norway’s experience with passenger vessels, the development of documentation guidelines, website updates, and, importantly, the harmonization of Recognized Organizations (ROs). We at Magnecopter continue to create awareness of my new invention, the magnetically driven helicopter, aka 'Magnecopter'. The key technical feature is the Avemag™, aka ‘Wayne Avellanet’s magnetically driven concentric wing assembly’ which is shown in the video below. This invention is theoretical at this time and ready for prototyping. The business model is WIDE OPEN for non-exclusive licensing! I will license this technology where ever I am legally (under U.S. law) able to do so. For a modest license fee and small royalty, your firm can build this YOURSELVES! This CycloRotor design has been attempted in shipping and aircraft designs previously. The short story is that this design is based of what Is called the Magnus Effect which is an extension of Bernoulli's principle. Will the Magnus Effect work for the CycloTech aircraft? Time will tell if the Magnus Effect is scalable to this type of application. It is less efficient than a standard airfoil and prone to wind deflections of low to high pressure areas critical for the Magnus Effect to be, well...effective. https://lnkd.in/g_JErBp9
