A new report, Continuity of Earth Observation Data for Australia: Risks, has been released. The report provides a comprehensive assessment of the civil use of EO in government, research, and commercial applications and services in Australia, and is the result of a collaborative study conducted by Geoscience Australia, The University of Queensland, Earth Observation Australia Inc., and Symbios. The study identifies more than 170 government programs that are dependent on EO data, and highlights that all of the satellite data utilised by Australia derives from foreign sources. This dependence poses risks and vulnerabilities to the Australian economy, society and environment, with potential to impact a wide range of government services, research initiatives and commercial ventures. Science is a beautiful gift to humanity; we should not distort it. The deep parts of the North Atlantic with its stunning morhology along the Mid-Atlantic Ridge is another example of beauty. The Norwegian Offshore Directorate (NOD), by itself and in cooperation with scientific institutions, aquire data and information from the vast areas of the deep North Atlantic. The NOD believes in sharing undistorted data to the public, to industry, and to science. https://lnkd.in/daRcZunY #NorwegianOffshoreDirectorate, #NorwegianContinentalShelf, #DeepOceanMapping, #ScientificCooperation, #MidAtlanticRidge

Kwarg for the first time attended the meeting of the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) - EXPANDEO 2024. The EO data coming from publicly available satellites and platforms, like Copernicus program and Sentinels data are changing the game in European market of informed decisions, risk management and sustainable planning 🔥 🚀 One big takeaway? There's a grand untapped potential in compliance monitoring, especially for atmospheric applications such as air quality. While land and water monitoring-focused initiatives are ample, air pollution monitoring applications are fewer despite the new standards for EU air quality are on the horizon 📃 🌍
🌍We’re now into our second internationalisation panel, discussing global and regional market dynamics, socio-economic and policy needs, and trends influencing the demand for Earth Observation technologies and services with speakers from Europe, Asia, Africa and Latin America! Registration is now OPEN for the first conference of the Geological Society’s ‘Geohazards, Geoengineering and Georesilience’ (G3) theme: ‘G3 conference: Breakthroughs in interdisciplinarity for geohazard risk reduction’. Geohazards can bring about great change to lives, livelihoods and landscapes; but there is still much to learn about how humans experience, understand and cope with hazardous events and their aftermath. Natural hazards are all around and there is an uncomfortable familiarity with the narratives of death, destruction and disruption that accompany these events. On the other hand, stories of togetherness and deepening of social bonds can enhance individual and community resilience and support recovery. Arguably more extraordinary than the event itself, these stories of resilience have a power beyond those that own them. This virtual conference taking place on 26 March 2024 focuses on stories of georesilience and will share, and celebrate, the interdisciplinary processes and outputs that aim to lessen the adverse impacts of geohazards. Reserve your space today https://lnkd.in/edtKYz8N #GeoResilience2024 #G3Conference #Georesilience #NaturalHazardConference

While geopolitical issues dominate the news, other devastating issues also define the times in which we are living. Access to clean water / water scarcity / sanitation is one of the biggest issues affecting developing countries. United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA)‘s #Space4Water program helps bring attention to these needs and mobilise relevant capacity to address the issue. #Space4Life
Join us next Monday 30 Sept at 14:30 CEST for the first episode in the #Space4Water #webinar series! Prof. Amos Kabo-bah, Dean of International Relations at University of Energy and Natural Resources will speak about Groundwater scarcity and availability and the role of Earth observations #EO to address related challenges. There is a growing recognition of the need for space resource utilisation, including water, fuel and oxygen, to support extended space activities, on the Moon and beyond. There is also an understanding of the importance of conducting these activities in a responsible and sustainable, as well as a legal, manner. This article, recently published in the Griffith Law Review, examines what sustainability means in space, with specific emphasis on space resource activities, and the consequent implications for human uses of outer space. In particular, the article explores the legal principles that currently regulate and are proposed to regulate space resource activities and how these relate to sustainability as a way of developing our general understanding of sustainability in space. It was a pleasure to work on these important issues with Stacey Henderson and Michelle Neumann. #ISRU #spacelaw #sustainability #Artemis #ILRS https://lnkd.in/gkbUkaeS

Best invest in Building Fusion power, space, and maritime propulsion systems and industry, You talk about Nuclear (meaning Fission) and fail to discuss fusion. https://lnkd.in/ge_aeX7M The nuclear fission industry is, ignorant of what's happening around you. Pull your uranium heads out, start adjusting your industry to fusion energy and start preparing to enter the commercially growing fusion energy industry. As it dawns on Earth like the sun. Great Headline Guardian on Nuclear fission. https://lnkd.in/g8sMZtpR Fission is moving towards obsolescence at an accelerated pace, as it is "out of step, out of time, out of place," and merely a temporary industry globally. https://lnkd.in/gbd_mZqk Commercial fusion electrical generation is a promising innovative sustainable and clean energy method. By 2028, Helion is expected to start producing electricity from its first fusion commercial power plant, which will provide electricity to Microsoft. The plant will produce at least 50 MWe after an initial ramp-up period. https://lnkd.in/gY9J3MQY Now see what is happening in the Fusion industry in the world. https://lnkd.in/g9hMBD7a As fission trebles, fuel shortage is increasingly real, https://lnkd.in/gze5rwpr

On Google Maps we might think that Greenland is larger than North America but this is not the case: let's see the real size of the nations. Traditional map projections, of which the Mercator is one example, have tended to show countries incorrectly in proportion to one another. The effect is that countries closer to the poles (USA, Northern Asia, Europe) appear larger than they really are, while those closer to the equator, such as Africa, appear smaller. https://lnkd.in/d9F7jHJu
