Construction of our smolt facility in picturesque Laugar Landsveit is progressing nicely. Set to become operational in 2025, the facility, designed by SMJ, will have the capacity to produce up to 2 million high-quality smolt annually. Growing healthy smolt in the pristine freshwater of Laugar is the first step in our mission to responsibly harness Iceland’s clean, renewable resources to produce the highest quality land-based salmon 💧 🐟 #landbased #salmonfarming in #Iceland

Crown Estate Invests £7.3 Million to Propel Offshore Wind Initiatives and Marine Ecosystem Protection The Crown Estate has committed an impressive £7.3 million (€8.76 million) to fund five research projects. These initiatives aim to fast-track the UK's journey to a net-zero energy system while safeguarding marine ecosystems, reflecting the growing need to balance renewable energy development with environmental stewardship. The projects address critical challenges posed by offshore wind farms. They seek to fill knowledge gaps about their environmental impacts, propose strategies to mitigate those effects, expand access to marine data, and explore synergies like co-locating fisheries with wind farms. Among the funded projects is the innovative Disco Scallops, which has already demonstrated a 500 percent increase in scallop catch through a new low-impact fishing method. This research supports static fishing techniques in areas typically off-limits to mobile fishing, such as marine protected zones and offshore wind farms. The ECOCHANGE initiative aims to understand how offshore wind farms alter marine ecosystems. By examining how wind farm structures support new marine life and how habitats like sandy seabeds are impacted, the project aims to uncover the broader ecological ripple effects, including their influence on oceanic food chains. #maritimeconnection #offshorewind #ISeaSMEs #sustainable #socsea https://lnkd.in/eJ4-nBSt

Recently, Environment and Water Minister Tanya Plibersek decided to reject a proposed windfarm project in Queensland. The project, set to be built near the biodiverse wet tropics world heritage area, faced concerns over its potential impact on spectacled flying-fox habitat. Plibersek's stance underscores the importance of prioritising environmental preservation alongside renewable energy development. Ark Energy Corporation the company behind the project, took a bold step by withdrawing its proposal following the minister's indication of refusal. Despite their efforts to minimise environmental impact, Ark Energy recognised the significance of preserving the unique ecosystem. We wholeheartedly support sustainable energy initiatives that harmonise with nature. While we champion the transition to clean energy, we also recognise the critical need to safeguard our ecosystems. Plibersek’s decision reflects a balanced approach, ensuring that renewable projects align with national environmental standards. Moreover, we celebrate the approval of Neoen's Mount Hopeful windfarm project, a testament to the ongoing momentum in renewable energy adoption. With 46 renewable projects already approved and 130 more in the pipeline, Australia is well on its way to becoming a global leader in sustainable energy solutions. #sustainability #renewables #environmentalprotection #cleanenergy #ecosystems #queensland #australia #evoegy

🌟 Proud moment for IMPERATIVE 🌟 We’ve just earned a strong ex ante rating from BeZero Carbon for our South African Restoration Project! But what exactly does this mean? Think of it as getting a forecast on how effective our efforts will be in reducing carbon emissions before we fully roll them out. The rating from BeZero Carbon is based on their assessment of how likely our project is to achieve its carbon reduction goals. They use an eight-point alphabetic scale, ranging from ‘highest’ to ‘lowest’ likelihood, to convey their confidence in our project's ability to remove or avoid a tonne of CO2e. Receiving a strong rating means our South African Restoration Project is seen as very promising in its potential to capture and reduce carbon. This rating is a testament to our team's hard work and our commitment to impactful climate action. Kudos to the whole team and especially NatCarbon Africa for this incredible achievement! 🌍💚 #ClimateAction #Sustainability #CarbonMarkets #ExAnteRating #Restoration #SouthAfrica
IMPERATIVE is proud to announce the receipt of our first ex ante carbon rating from BeZero Carbon. The first 10,000 hectare phase of Imperative’s recently sanctioned South African project, which at full scale will restore 100,000 hectares of land through active replanting of native thicket across a vast area in the Eastern and Western Capes of South Africa, has received an ex ante Standalone Carbon Rating of 'aa' and a BeZero Carbon ex ante Rating of 'Ae'. This ex ante rating puts Imperative’s Spekboom project amongst the highest rated Afforestation, Reforestation and Revegetation projects for which BeZero have issued ex ante ratings. This very strong rating serves as a significant external validation and endorsement of Imperative’s commitment to top-decile quality in our carbon credit projects. As execution progresses on the project, we aim to further increase the project’s rating. Read the full release here: https://lnkd.in/g6ZRkvZC #climateaction #voluntarycarbonmarkets

Contact Energy’s proposed 300 MW Southland wind farm has cleared a significant planning hurdle, receiving a favourable assessment from the Environmental Protection Authority. The project aligns with regional and district council objectives regarding water quality, infrastructure, and emission reductions. Located east of Wyndham, the wind farm will feature 55 turbines, each with a tip height of 220 metres, spanning 58 square kilometres of forestry and farmland. Expected to generate up to 1,200 GWh annually, the development is positioned to make a meaningful contribution to New Zealand's renewable energy goals. Collaboration with local iwi has also been a key focus, reinforcing the project's commitment to environmental and community considerations. ___________________________________________________ To read the full article please visit the Energynews website via the link below; https://lnkd.in/g35dkW_M

Protect VIP raised concern over the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by three of the country’s developers of fossil gas – Aboitiz Equity Ventures (AEV), the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), and San Miguel Corporation (SMC) with the Department of Energy (DOE) and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), reportedly to help conserve the critically biodiverse marine corridor. “If SMC, AEV, and MPIC are genuine in their “joint stewardship”, building a multibillion gas project that would only bring harm to the VIP shouldn’t push through in the first place. These three conglomerates can show their sincerity in protecting the VIP by stopping their fossil gas expansion plans, prioritizing instead the development of clean energy from renewables and helping contribute to building the resilience of marine and coastal biodiversity and communities,” said Gerry Arances, Executive Director of sustainability think-tank Center for Energy, Ecology, and Development (CEED), a co-convenor of Protect VIP. Windlab is developing the North Queensland Super Hub – a major clean energy precinct centred around Hughenden, 380km south-west of Townsville which includes the Prairie and Wongalee wind energy projects, as well as other projects in early stages of planning.
During construction, the Prairie Wind Farm is set to create around 500 jobs. #construction #supplychain #procurement .................................................. Windlab has welcomed the recent federal Government approval of the Prairie Wind Farm under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act (EPBC Act). Located 340km south-west of Townsville, Windlab’s CEO John Martin said Windlab is developing Prairie in a way that minimises potential impacts on ecology. “Securing EPBC Act approval reflects around four years of detailed responsible design, and over two years environmental scrutiny, and consultation". The Prairie Wind Farm is part of the North Queensland Super Hub, an umbrella for multiple individually permitted wind, solar, and storage projects co-located within the same region. Windlab received EPBC Act approval for their Gawara Baya project located in the same region in June 2024. Connect for full story.
