The GeoSalmo team had a fantastik time at this years Lagarlíf this past week. Jens Thordarson our CEO and chairman of Lagarlíf opened the conference and inspired us all for the days ahead. He adressed the industry at large, the opportunities and challenges ahead. He spoke specifically about the fact that “the development of land-based aquaculture will require significant investment—more than what can be raised locally. With over 300 billion ISK in planned investments over the next few years, this represents the most ambitious private-sector effort ever undertaken in Iceland.” Hreiðar Hreiðarsson our Head of Aquaculture covered our risk analysis and explained our approach of beginning and designing with the end in mind.

Investors are increasingly focused on hybrid flow-through aquaculture systems as they navigate the technical challenges posed by full RAS facilities. Matt Craze, founder of Spheric Research and publisher of the "Land-based Aquaculture Report 2024," highlighted the success of Salmon Evolution’s hybrid flow-through system in Norway, which has “just about broken even,” as a key reason this model is attracting more attention. With similar projects underway in Iceland, this trend signals a growing shift toward simpler, more robust systems. Fellow speakers at the virtual RAS Summit on Wednesday, Dag Sletmo of DNB Bank and Howard Tang, CFA of Peritus Capital, acknowledged that while the RAS sector has weathered volatility, there are signs that the "dust is settling" and investor confidence is returning. However, the financing available is "selective"— primarily favoring established players that are securing additional capital, while funding remains difficult for new startups. Did you know that even for Fish, Taste Matters? This is what we all learnt at TARS from our very own Global Aqua Innovation Leader Sofia Morais. And Fish can sense taste not only from their tongue, but also other taste receptors. Did you know that they do not like bitter and sour tastes much like us humans. And they like sweet, and umami flavors and their body need the salts, again same as humans. Amazing isn’t it? But it’s not so simple, as there are so many different fish species, their needs are different too. Its a fascinating field of aquatic sensory science and research as we continue to learn more and discover new insights. Share with us your knowledge and pain points, and together we will find new solutions, just right for you!
The TARS 2024 has concluded! We are thrilled to have sponsored and been part of Asia’s leading aquaculture event. Thank you to everyone who joined us during Sofia Morais’ presentation, “Taste Matters: From Science to Application.” We hope you found her insights on enhancing taste and efficiency in aquaculture feeds valuable. We are grateful for the chance to connect with industry leaders, share knowledge, and explore the latest advancements in aquaculture. The exchange of ideas and expertise at TARS 2024 was truly enriching. We look forward to continuing our journey of innovation and collaboration in the aquaculture industry. #TARS2024 #MarineFish #Aquaculture #FeedEfficency #Lucta #Innovation #Trust

Last week was Aquaculture Week in Australia: We had a great time at the Aqua Farm conference in Surfers Paradise, discussing our perspective on the "Future of Aquaculture" with international industry leaders. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm in this sector (and meeting great people and learning from some really interesting talks). At the same time, in Sydney, there was a great opportunity to get an update on the opportunities in this area with the Ocean Impact Organisation, Blue Economy CRC and especially with Australia's most innovative Aquaculture business Aquacultr as part of the Climate Action Week Sydney. It's evident that future technology developments in this field hold immense potential, and we firmly believe it will serve as a pivotal technology platform for food manufacturing in the (not so far) future. The time has come to shine a spotlight on Aquaculture in Australia and to recognise that this is a growth opportunity for our economy that is highly undervalued at the moment. We are excited to be at the forefront of this development (and we are glad that we are not entirely alone). #Aquaculture #FutureOfFood #Innovation #Australia #futureofseafood Jose Manuel Fernandez Polanco, Roy Palmer, Lourdes Gant 🦋, Geoffrey Bell, Nick Chiarelli, Elisa-Marie Dumas, Mathew Goddard
