We condemn the Iranian regime's latest effort to further restrict the rights of women and girls. The "Chastity and Hijab" law is yet another manifestation of Iran's effort to oppress women and girls systematically. This law should be immediately repealed. https://lnkd.in/eiYXZQ3C

I did a study with the Washington based Population Action International in Iran & several other countries including the United States on the issue of women’s reproductive rights. To my surprise I found Iran a very progressive society where young women and men openly mingled in cafe’s & on the streets. The results of my study among all the countries Iran & the Netherlands were the Gold Standard on women’s reproductive rights and most other areas. The United States came in the same category as the developing countries. As a former member of the CEDAW committee I am fully aware that in most Western countries women are openly forced in prostitution & selling their bodies to put food on the table for their children. Why are you not condemning these systemic violation of women’s rights & human dignity? I am disappointed by those entities that repeat the US politicians and media propaganda about any country that do not bow to US’s imperialist behavior. Frankly after what the US government did to Afghan women, handing them back to the Taliban, I don’t trust the US government to have any say about the rights of women in other countries. There is enough women’s rights violations in the US that needs immediate attention.

Thank you for sharing this article Melanne Verveer. The Chastity and Hijab law not only infringes upon fundamental freedoms but also perpetuates systematic oppression. It’s essential to amplify these calls for justice and equality. #WomenLifeFreedom
