Largest Commercial Airplane: The Airbus A380, which can carry up to 853 passengers in an all-economy configuration, is the largest commercial aircraft in the world. The Busiest Airport: Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport has consistently been the busiest airport in the world by passenger numbers. Jet Lag Causes: Jet lag occurs because air travel across multiple time zones disrupts the body's internal clock, which regulates sleep, digestion, and other functions. Shortest Commercial Flight: The shortest commercial flight is between Westray and Papa Westray in Scotland, lasting just about 1.5 minutes! The Economics of Weight: Every extra pound on a plane costs airlines significantly in fuel. This is why even small savings in weight—like using lighter food carts—can save millions in fuel costs annually. Aircraft Lifespan: A typical commercial airplane is built to last between 20 to 30 years and will take hundreds of thousands of flights before retirement. Turbulence is Normal: Although it can be uncomfortable, turbulence is normal and rarely a safety issue for commercial aircraft. To frame the formal discussion over the coming days, a high level panel of aviation experts from across the Asia and Pacific region used this theme as the basis for a wide ranging examination of the current issues, and associated solutions, facing aviation in our region.
