Georgia Power Company’s Post

It’s Official! 🥳 We are excited to share that the Mossy Branch Battery Facility is operational and serving Georgians! 🔌 ⚡   What is the Mossy Branch Battery Facility? 🔋 The Mossy Branch Battery Facility is a state-of-the-art 65-megawatt battery energy storage system. This facility is designed to enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide valuable insights into the operation and optimization of large-scale battery storage systems. ⚡   What does this mean for Georgians?  Battery storage can enhance grid reliability, support renewable energy integration, and provide economic and environmental benefits. 🛠️ As our Chairman and CEO Kim Greene states, “Battery energy storage is an example of a new technology that will make our grid more reliable and resilient every day, and especially during extreme weather events.”    How does this relate to Hydro and Solar Power? ☀️ 💧 Georgia Power is proud to serve Georgians with clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy. We use a diverse mix of energy sources including as hydro and solar power. While these sources are abundant, they come with a significant challenge: water levels fluctuate 🌧️, and the sun doesn't always shine ⛅ – which leads to fluctuations in energy supply.    Battery storage systems are designed to address this issue by storing excess energy generated during peak production times and releasing it when production is low👇, or demand is high👆. This capability promotes a steady and reliable supply of electricity, regardless of the variability in renewable energy generation! 🔋   Mossy Branch Battery Facility is just one of the many ways we are building the grid of the future in Georgia! 🔌 ⚡ For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/eaBfZjxQ

Congratulations to Georgia Power Company the successful commercial operation of its first battery energy storage system at the Mossy Branch Battery Facility! This milestone marks an exciting step forward in energy storage and grid evolution for the state.

This is fantastic news! I'm particularly interested in how battery storage will help manage fluctuations in solar and hydro power. Could you elaborate on how this facility will be used to optimize renewable energy integration?

Congrats 🔋 Now comes the maintenance 📝 #gridreliability

Please educate all first and emergency responders on lithium ion batteries. Have Emergency Response Plans in place, cover all of this information with all local firefighters that will respond in case of a battery energy storage site incident
