In fact, an #IBM report reveals that the half-life of skills is shrinking, forcing us to continually refresh what we know. As a result, expecting one person to know it all or present a fully polished solution on any work challenge has become unrealistic. Instead, success is now about who you know that knows, and your ability to engage them in co-creating solutions. This shift challenges the traditional belief that deep personal expertise and individual accomplishment are the keys to standing out. Professionals are conditioned to polish ideas to perfection before sharing them, believing that presenting half baked ideas might damage their credibility or make them look incompetent. However, this mindset creates a bottleneck, preventing many great ideas from surfacing due to fear of not being ‘good enough.’ This stifles both innovation and career advancement. A Seat at a New Table: Finding Meaning in Change After 25 Years 🍽️✨ In December 2023, I selected this festive china as a gift from IBM to mark 25 years with the company. Little did I know that just a few months later, in April 2024, my journey with IBM would come to an end. Losing a job after 25 years wasn’t easy, and the most challenging part has been learning to sit with uncertainty. But I’ve also realized that uncertainty can be a powerful teacher—it has given me space to reflect, breathe, and explore what comes next. 🌬️🌱 While my time with IBM is now behind me, I carry forward the lessons, experiences, and relationships that shaped me throughout the years. I’m grateful for all the milestones achieved and the incredible people I had the privilege to work with along the way. 🤝 I’m excited about the transformation I’ve undergone and the journey ahead. I've embraced consulting work in Learning & Development, Organizational Development, and Change Management, channeling my passion for growth and impact. Along the way, I’ve also earned new certifications in Prosci and Lean Six Sigma, sharpening my skills and deepening my expertise. 🎉 For now, I’m taking a moment to pause and appreciate the journey so far. This experience was not only enriching but also incredibly empowering as it equipped me with the tools and knowledge needed to excel in interviews and beyond. During the session, seasoned professionals from IBM shared invaluable insights on how to effectively answer interview questions, present oneself confidently, and articulate experiences and skills in a compelling manner. From tackling behavioral questions to mastering the STAR method, every aspect of the interview process was dissected and discussed in detail. One of the highlights of the session was the interactive nature of the training. We were encouraged to actively participate in mock interview scenarios, providing us with a safe space to practice and receive constructive feedback from both our peers and the IBM mentors. This hands-on approach not only boosted my confidence but also honed my communication and interpersonal skills.
