🇬🇧 H1 - UK Market Review 🇬🇧 With H1 now over, I have received a number of questions about the Tech Hiring landscape so far this year. Highlights Q1 - A slower start to the year than usual for startups/scale-ups (consistent with market conditions over the last 12-24 months). - Lack of investment and spending. High interest rates have led investors to hold onto their money. Q2 - New financial activity spurred by fresh budgets and projects. - Permanent employees are seeking new opportunities due to slow moving projects and a desire to up skill. This caused a knock on effect of backfills for short term contractors and more permanent hires. Top Industries 1. AI (by far the busiest sector) 2. Climate Tech 3. Health Tech Promising signs for H2. 🚀 Talent Connect Group #techhires #recruitment #javascript #MENA #UK

"85 million tech jobs will go unfilled by 2030" So predicted John Winsor during a fascinating afternoon at Home House yesterday, courtesy of CXC. Applying even a modest £10k average fee to that number over half a decade, that gives us an 'global unfilled tech vacancies' market worth way more than £100bn p.a. £100 billion on the table. Every year. If the figures are even close to correct, from the staffing industry's point of view, thats a staggering opportunity. For the world's major economies (and consumers of technology capability) its a big challenge to train domestic workforces - or ship a lot of value overseas. My guess is they won't come close to meeting their own demand. Which means that - perhaps - the greatest opportunity sits with developing nations. Countries with educated populations, relatively low rates of employment and a decent digital infrastructure. From the European perspective, focussing on nations within a few hours of the timezone, there is a real possibility that the likes of Nigeria, Ukraine, South Africa and Kenya could become technology outsourcing powerhouses (I am aware that some of these have considerable industries in this space already). My guess is that we're currently only in the foothills of the technology up-skilling journey (and yes, that's even after accounting for the impact of AI). Thank you to Hannah Young, CCWP, Debbie Glasson & colleagues at CXC for organising a great event - in a wonderful venue.

If you've been following my Musings 🤔 Of a Recruiter & market insights recently... The Government report from 2022 I posted about found that Australia will need an additional 650,000 tech workers by 2030... that is an alarming amount of people in a vertical, and in a very short time (81,000 per year since that report, but given the current market dip probably 100K+ for the next 6 years). 📊 🌏 Historically, Australia has always been, and will likely always be short of technology-focused people for reasons unique to this country (size of our island, distance between cities and we're a long way from our nearest neighbours with tech hubs). 🏝️ 💼 Once the money flows back into the economy the tech talent will be soaked up in the three major cities, in my opinion probably 6-9 months max, and it will become highly competitive again (it already is for the best people), those with the strongest networks will come out on top. 🏆 📈 Tech is only growing with our ever-increasing appetite for everything to be digital and on-demand, so for anyone in tech, here's to the next 5-6 years of growth! 🚀 For more musings of a recruiter, market insights and open roles, drop ⬇️ me a follow. 👍 #TechGrowth #RecruitmentInsights #AustralianTech #DigitalFuture

#EasternEurope offers a range of benefits for companies seeking talented #tech professionals. ➡️ A growing #talentpool This region is home to some of Europe's best universities, producing graduates with strong #technical skills. ➡️ Effective communication The time zone difference between Eastern and Western Europe is minimal, making collaboration seamless. Plus, the cultural similarities between Eastern and Western Europeans ease communication and foster fruitful partnerships. ➡️ Competitive rates Compared to Western Europe and the US, Eastern European developers offer competitive rates, making them a cost-effective solution. ➡️ Major players take notice Tech giants like Intel Corporation, Google, and Samsung Electronics have recognized the potential in Eastern Europe, setting up R&D centers to tap into this pool of talent. ➡️ Challenges and considerations The high demand for #IT specialists also presents a challenge for Eastern European companies, who face staff retention issues. Remote work requires strong management skills to keep talented developers engaged. Eastern Europe is a prime location for companies seeking top #softwaredevelopers. With a skilled workforce, effective communication, and competitive rates, it's no wonder this region is becoming a tech powerhouse.
