It's all about the material! These projects at the Milan Design Week stand out with their innovative use of selected materials: Sitting on Paper – Italian manufacturer Arper presented its classic "Catifa" for the first time with a seat shell made from 29 layers of pressed paper. The material comes from Sweden and is marketed under the name "Paper Shell". It is obtained from by-products of the timber industry and a natural resin is used as a binding agent. Wood From the Printer – With "Econit Wood" from additive tectonics, sawdust produced as waste in sawmills and during timber harvesting is finely ground and mixed with a biological binder. The result is a material for printing and the production of a stylish lighting collection. The surface of "Econit Wood" is slightly roughened and irregular; the material is suitable for interiors, is sound-absorbent and can be biodegraded. Find out more about the clever selection of materials for these and other projects in Jasmin Jouhar's article: https://bit.ly/3WpO8LG #milandesignweek #design #materials #sustainability #recycling

Emulating a cellular honeycomb, molo Design’s folding wall partitions, furniture and lighting consist mainly of air – allowing a small amount of material to go a long way. "Enabling a space to adapt to diverse use over time, throughout the day or over its lifespan,” notes molo Design, “is an inherently sustainable practice." molo is known for inventing expandable structures that adapt to life changes and demands. The studio's soft collection design explores different aspects of sustainability and circularity. All pieces are easily flat-packed, minimizing volume and weight for storage and shipping. The paper and polyethylene non-woven textiles are recyclable. The brown and blue papers are made from wood harvested from FSC® Certified (FSC® C158591) responsible sources. These materials are paired with non-toxic fire retardants, adhesives and inks. All soft collection packaging is reusable, with recyclable paper and cardboard made of 80 - 100% recycled pulp. #mebltransformingfurniture #sustainablefurniture #sustainabledesign
