A good contracting agency will either make or break an experience for you. I've never been shy from contract work, in fact it was because of a contract that I was able to get my foot in the door with The Home Depot The short term opportunity to prove myself under time constraints?!?! what a fun challenge! But having been in that world for some +8 years now, I can safely say, if your contracting agency doesn't have your back, YOU most certainly need too. Grill your contract agency just as much as you grill your hiring manager -what is the benefits package? -who can I call with issues/questions pertaining to HR -what's the usual turn around for business travel expenses?? it's meant to be a partnership, they are benefitting from YOUR brain just as much you are benefitting from their network

Do you need any #temporary or #contract staff to get you through the next month or so? It's not too late to fill those gaps - especially with budget constraints and team members gearing up for a holiday to escape the winter! Temporary or contract staff can help ensure it's still "business as usual". With no regular hours or entitlements required, temporary workers for roles such as Senior Property Managers, Sales Associates, Office Administrators, Field Officers can be beneficial. At Prime Recruitment & Consulting we have a pool of candidates that can help manage the workload for the short term. Alternatively, if you need a specific skill set, contract staff are a great option to consider to help keep workflow moving at the required pace to meet your deadline. They can be the perfect addition to your team across various projects and tasks and can be engaged for as long or as little as you need them. Contact me today if the team at Prime Recruitment & Consulting can help. Laura Panzera laura@primerecruit.net.au

🚨STOP STEALING OUR STAFF!!🚨 I'm sure most of you who work in recruitment have had companies pinch your staff on the rare occasion, however last week I had a NEW contractor do this with SEVERAL of my lads behind my back after requesting several operatives from me. Do you know what goes into working with a new contractor our end? Let me break it down.... 1. It takes MONTHS if not YEARS to build our reputations and relationships with clients within the construction industry. The time and effort that goes into contacting clients, in and outside of working hours - is something that very often gets forgotten about. If I didn't have a good name for myself and work with top construction contractors across the nation, would you have worked with me? So why take my experties for granted? 2. We have to run credit checks and fill out documentation which can take HOURS!! The amount of admin that goes into working with a new business is extremely time consuming - insurances, terms of business, inputting candidate details, RTW checks....the list goes on!! And that is just my end, yet alone the payroll and account teams jobs. 3. After spending time inputting client / candidate details on our system, we have to confirm details with candidates (emails / calls / texts) as well as liaise with site management to ensure everything runs smoothly before candidates start on site. This usually involves calls back and forth from candidates to clients regarding rates, work, any questions they have. Basically trying to make everyone happy. 4. Companies often forget that the software and companies we use COST US MONEY!! So before I even have a pair of hands on site - I am already at a loss? Long story short... If you want to use a company with a great reputation that supplies quality candidates to HELP assist YOU on site, please work with us and not against us. The bottom line is - if you don't want to pay the money, don't ask!! P.S - my loyal candidates kept me in the loop with what this contractor was doing - now he has NO lads on site whatsoever. Was it really worth it?

Contracting vs. permanent hire: which path should you take? There’s a longstanding myth that contracting is the ugly stepchild of employment. In my view, that’s bogus. In fact, if you’re looking to make these career moves, a contract role is probably your best bet: → Wage & compensation growth Because employers don’t cover benefits and some taxes for contractors, they’re willing to pay more. If you have experience and success in a high-value skill, contracting can be a lucrative choice. → Vertical movement or promotion If you’re ready to take the next step in your career, contracting is a great way to take a chance on yourself, prove your capabilities, and build the experience necessary to succeed at a higher level. → Horizontal movement The same goes if you want to move to a different function, team, or department. Use a contract role to pick up new skills, then pivot to a permanent role when you’re ready. → Up-branding If you’ve only worked for small companies, it’s harder to get a job with a top-tier company. It’s a faster path to hire to work as a contractor, build that relationship, then take a permanent position when it comes available. What about you? Is there anything you’d add to the list?

90% of employers are so out of touch with reality of the work force today it's unbelievable. -Don't post a job opening with no salary. -You will never hire someone with experience for entry level pay. -How is someone supposed to get experience without a job? If you have someone who's inexperienced willing to give it a shot, you should let them. You may end up with a more loyal employee. -Stop with the corporate nonsense. Meetings are pointless, stop micro managing and trust your people. I see all these employers posting jobs for $25/hr that want years of experience YEARS. Not even particular to my trade but any trade in general. Skilled labor is not cheap, and cheap labor is not skilled!

Happy Monday! Are you considering dipping your toes into contracting but unsure where to start? Maybe you've mulled over the idea of exploring alternatives to the traditional permanent employment. After chatting with multiple seasoned career contractors (including my Dad), I wanted to highlight some of the main reasons individuals tend to explore independent contracting. Firstly, there's the flexibility, allowing you to take breaks between contracts and maintain a healthy work-life balance. My father was contracting when my brother and I were growing up, and this allowed him the time to coach our football teams, help us with our assignments and be able to attend prizegivings. Contracting also opens doors to diverse sectors and working cultures, enriching your skill set and broadening your professional horizons. This is great if you have worked in the same sector your whole career or are just interested in seeing what else is out there. Contracting also allows individuals to work on multiple contracts at any one time, being able to make a real impact to an organisation. As a contractor, there is the ability to dive into project-based work, focusing on specific tasks or objectives, whether it's implementing processes, policies, or contributing to a collective goal. If you are interested in having a conversation about the contracting market at the moment, or are alternatively interested in employing a contractor, please do not hesitate to reach out! #contracting #h2r #recrutiment
